Bob,

Welcome to the forums and to the Jesus Prayer group. We greatly anticipate your contributions!

I have prayed that Akathist! I love it 🙂
I understand that during one of his debates with Roman Catholic reps, Martin Luther heard one of them deprecate the Eastern Churches.

He immediately rose to the defence of the Christian East and said that it represents half of Christendom and that, as far as he was concerned, it was the “better half!”

That he did 🙂

Although to be fair, he wasn’t exactly sure of what the Christian East taught doctrinally speaking. He was just aware that they existed, that they possessed the Christian faith, and that made them good in his eyes. He also saw they didn’t have the same problems that seemed to plague the Western Church.

Nevertheless, it is a nice thing 😃

I got my prayer rope blessed this morning by my parish priest (Latin rite parish, btw)… He’d never seen one before and he thought it was really interesting. I told him the story of the monk getting his knots unraveled by satan, leading to the knotting style used now w/the interlocking crosses that he can’t touch.

In fact, the Latin Catholic Church originally had prayer rope/cord rosaries and the Dominican Fathers wore them wrapped on their left wrist, just like Eastern Christians and the clergy do today.

The cord rosary, which is a simple hand-tied rosary, is still the most widely distributed mission rosary in the world today.

Your prayer rope is as much a part of Latin Catholic tradition as it is Eastern!
