Jesus praying to his Father

I have had this question whirling around in my head for ages. It is basically a theological question I do not understand…Scripture tells us a number of times that Jesus prayed to His Father during the night 40 days, the Garden, etc…

Scripture also tells us that Jesus told his apostles that He had to leave them and assend into Heaven or else the Holy Spirit could not come upon them at Pentacost.

Since we are talking about the Triune God…Jesus prays to his father while on earth yet at the sametime cannot be on earth while the Holy Ghost comes down upon those in the Upper Room. Can you please explain what I am trying to understand?

The Trinity is a mystery. But, when the Church says something is a mystery, they tell you what the mystery is. By that, I mean that the mystery is explained as much as can be.

The questions you ask are quite natural and they puzzle our senses, But, what is revealed here, is that the individual persons in the trinity are real, even though there is a unity among them.

You may just as well have thrown in the reference to the Apostle’s Creed, that Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father.

these are things that we ACCEPT in faith. We marvel that God is what he has revealed himself to be.

Undoubtedly this confuses us in its overall picture, but I’d say we understand God better because of what we know.

Why do you want to understand? God did not ask us to understand Him, all He asked is our LOVE. To understand the mystery of God first you have to become god. For God is God and man is man. Just pray to your heart and God will reveal you His mystery, once God reveal it to you, you will be inspired and by instance you can understand fully but you cannot explain. There are words that cannot be spoken by any speech but only our heart could understand. For God will talk to us in our inner most of our heart. Listen to Him deep in your heart and He will teach you…

Yes God knows ALL. Thus knowing ALL His knowledge of Himself is PERFECT. And by having a Perfect Knowledge of Himself he loves Himself perfectly. Thus, it should be of no surprise to anyone if Christ devoted prayer to God, for Christ being God, loves Himself perfectly, knows the Father perfectly, and by doing so, He loves God with a perfect wisdom and if to pray is to show love for God, Christ’s prayer is a Perfect prayer for it is a perfect love devoted to a perfect God.

The Church, as an institution, began with the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. God’s will was that the Church would be in the hands of the apostles and their successors. That is why Jesus had to leave. Not because the Holy Spirit was unable to come down if Jesus had stayed.
