Jesus preached to the dead. 1 Peter 4:6

I would like to say that the faith which is blind, are the eyes that would refuse to see the evidence which supports the claims coming straight from the eyewitnesses themselves. Jesus was the one whom the law and the psalms talked about. Jesus was also the fulfillment of those prophecies. As in Psalm 22. And if you have ever told a lie, or looked upon a woman (or man) with lust in your heart you are guilty of sinning against YHWY. Because He is holy, sin must be paid for. Would this be by the blood of the prophets? No. Animal sacrifices? No. The ultimate showing of love for you and I was the payment of the shedding of blood on the cross. I have found in scripture that even during my most horrific sin, God loved me and paid for that sin by the atonement of Jesus. If I may challenge you, try this for a day; Read Exodus 21. Follow every commandment. Let me know how you do. I can tell you how I have done. But I think you may have figured this out already. -Matisso

When Jesus preached to the dead, this place is called the Abraham’s Bosom, or the Sheol. The abode of the dead. If this place is not hell the place of damned souls, and not purgatory, then what is it? It couldn’t be Limbo.

I am never cleared on this. I known in the Nicene Creed, that Jesus descended into the dead. In some translation he descended into hell.

As far as I’m concern there are only three places, Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell. Where exactly did Jesus go?

This is how I see it

Before Christ, departed souls didn’t enter into eternity. The only reality that defined this ‘place’, Hades or Sheol that is, is the souls that dwell there. Abrahams bosom isn’t a different place but is defined by the souls that share a bond or likeness to their father Abraham. There was no real distinction yet in the land of the dead because the souls there had yet to meet their final destiny. In a way , just as eternity entered into human life and history it also entered into human death and afterlife. Before Christ came down from Heaven the afterlife couldn’t be defined accurately as eternal.

When Jesus’ soul entered Hades or sheol, the place where all the departed souls then existed, some were well prepared to meet their Lord and beholding the perfection of His soul were united to Him immediately.These souls entered into eternal life. I believe these are the people that rose from their graves and were seen walking through out the city at the time of Jesus’ death. Some souls loved Him but were not able to unite to him immediately because their souls distorted by sin had to be reconformed into the perfection that the vision of Christ’s soul offered. Souls in a state of purging are not in an eternal state of existence. Nonetheless it is a state of being that has not been unoccupied since it’s beginning when eternity entered Hades. Unlike heaven or hell this is a state of being that is entered into and exited out of. When the last soul to be purged is purged, purgatory will no longer exist. Since their will be no soul in that state of existence to offer it something that could be called a ‘place’

Those who rejected Christ also came to exist and exist in a state of being that is described in the word it is called. Hell. These souls like the souls prepared to meet their Lord, entered into eternity immediately.

A further note. In the framework of this model there is no longer an abode of the dead as it was before Jesus entered into that state. There is an eternal existence of seperation from Him (hell) or union with Him( heaven ), and purgatory, which is not eternal but defined by the souls that exist in a state of becoming fully united to Him.

Hell is simply the grave. Jesus told the man on the cross that “today you will be with me in paradise”. Paradise at that time was the righteous side of the grave ( luke 16 ) based on the two texts in Peter and Eph 4, and the resurrection of the righteous in the gospels after his death. It is understood that Jesus entered the paradise, abraham bosom of the grave, announced the good news to the OT righteous and upon his resurrection and ascension lead them in his “train” to heaven, thus transferring paradise to heaven. Paul latter was caught up to that paradise in II Cor 12.

Did purgatory exist Before jesus died on the cross and did any people from old testamt times achieve sainthood so as not to have to exp[erience any purgatory?

I never get answers to these questions.

Also did Enoch and Elijah go to Abraham’s Bosom, Purgatory, Sheol, or to the place where the Jesus “preached to the spiritsin prison” as Peter said?

If jesus liberated the people or spirits from prison when did purgatory first open up–before He died on the cross or after?

Please don’t mind. I respect your religion, nevertheless I would say that there were no eyewitnesses who stated on oath and who would have been crossexamined to ascertain the truth as is common these days, they wrote whatever they liked in the scriptures so one should be cautious in accepting what they said. These might be equal to hearsay sometimes or often.
