JB 1Peter 3:18,19 Why, Christ Himself, innocent though he was, had died once for sins, died for the guilty, to lead us to God. In the body he was put to death, in(by) the spirit he was raised to life, and in the spirit , he went to preach(preached) to the spirits in prison.
I am in a conversation with a JW and the NWT reads by, preached. The JW’s teach that Jesus was resurrected when He preached to the spirits in prison. They beleive Jesus was not resurrected bodily. They say that after the resurrection he used different bodies because his disciples didn’t recognize him until they recognized something he said.
As a Catholic I beleive Jesus in the spirit went to the spirits in prison, as taught in the Creed, while his body was in the tomb.
How can I explain this to my friend using scripture. I have read what the CCC has to say but am not happy with their notes.
Thanks for your help
