Jesus promised the crucified thief he would be that day in paradise with him

But Jesus descended to sheol and took three days to resurrect.He did not go to paradise
that day.I do not understand Jesus’promise.

Jesus did not spend 3 days in sheol (hell) waiting to resurrect, first.

Second, Scriptural passages did not have punctuation when they were first written. No sentences, no chapters, no verses.

SO it is entirely possible that the punctuation of the sentence commonly translated as “I say to you, this day you shall be with me in Paradise” could be translated thus:

“I say to you this day, you shall be with me in Paradise”. See the difference comma placement can make?

Remember, once one is dead one is no longer bound to ‘linear’ time as well. Jesus (and the thief) did not die and then **wait three days in hell, or in heaven. DAYS, minutes, hours etc. DO NOT EXIST as such in heaven. **

Because Jesus is God He is master of time and space and because He RETURNED to earth for a period of time does not mean that the SAME period of time (in minutes, hours, days etc.) existed in heaven until He returned. The thief did not have to wait and Jesus’ descent to Sheol did not take place in LINEAR time. . .meaning He did not go down and spend ‘days’ there until He could return to earth.

Sheol (at least the half that Jesus and the thief went to) is paradise. Paradise and Heaven are 2 different places.
 
There are several solutions:
In Greek a garden was a paradise, Genesis God planted a paradise in Eden, Jesus was crucified and buried in a garden (John 19:41) so in one sense Jesus and the good thief were already in paradise. Second, Jesus’ body was the only thing that one could eat and gain eternal life and the fruit of the tree of life gave eternal life so the good thief was hanging next to the tree of life. Much more could be said on this typologically. Third, Part of Sheol / Hades / Purgatory was a paradise (where Abraham dwelt) and Jesus did not go to heaven until at least after the resurrection (I have not yet ascended to the Father) and Jesus was the first human to enter heaven so no one did before Him. So Jesus and the good thief went somewhere other than heaven that was paradise. I hold the good portion of Hades.
