Hi!
Just this Holy Week, I saw portions of the Jesus revealed documentary in the National Geograhic… I was really saddened and angered when it stressed that Jesus had an “intimate” relationship with Mary Magdalene, which according to the researchers was written in the Book of Judas. I want to know is there any truth of the existence of this Book of Judas, as claimed in the documentary… In all honesty, I never entertained such absurd thought of Jesus having "intimate’ relationship with Mary Magdalene.
I hope any one could shed light to this querry.:confused:

I don’t usually watch these shows because I believe that have ulterior motives and want to subtly and not so subtly steer us away from our Christianity.

I watched it too because I know many families and teens will have seen it, and it was truly ghastly even worse than I would expect from this source. worse still, some catechists saw it and have been discussing it, so we had an emergency meeting in all sessions to discuss the program and how to identify and combat the errors. what on earth does the content of that program and similar “bible-based” programs on NGC, history channel and others have to do with their stated purpose and area of interest? nada? they are produced, I am convinced, solely to be salacious and to attack sincere believers by attacking their beliefs. I wonder how many people tune into an NGC program on whales or volcanoes, vs a program delving into the imagined sex life of the Lord. pandering. second poster is wise not to watch, but there is no sublety involved in these attacks. they are overt, direct and malicious in intent.

I didn’t know about or see what you’re referencing, though I regret that. It sounds as though it would have been interesting and enjoyable.

Yes, the “book of Judas” exists. In fact, it was recently (in the last year or so?) in the news because of a discovery of an ancient copy of the text (or parts of it).

Despite the recent discovery, though, the Church has been aware of the text’s existence because e.g. Church fathers such as St. Irenaeus wrote against it (for heretical or other objectionable issues it conveyed) in the 2nd century.

So, from the Catholic point of view, no need to be threatened or worried about claims regarding Jesus and Mary Magdalene having intimate relations (unless you grant Dan Brown infallible truths that the Church does not share).

Yes the GoJ does exist. It was one of the thousands of documents that Various emperors of ROme and the Vatican sought to have destroyed. The Gospel of Phillip also indicates a likely romantic relationship between Jesus and Mary (he is described as saying she is his favorite disciple and he kisses her on the [face or head or mouth]). The Gospel of Mary indicates that Jesus may have considered her his favorite disciple.
 
A prime example of why I chose to disengage from the profit-driven media. National Geographic is trading on their historical credibility at the expense of current and future credibility.

Thank you so much for posting your views… I really appreciate every point stressed… I was born and raised a Catholic and definetely , I will die a Catholic… I just hate it when people fabricate stories for financial gain, not considering the effect it might bring to others…But anyways, thank you for the advice, I will not view Nat’l Geographic at all…Who are they to topple down my faith? They are accountable to God.

Its all rubbish and we get this every year.

At Easter and Christmas you can bet Discovery, National Geographic or History Channel will broadcast a documentary to try to ridicule Christianity in general or the Catholic Church in particular.
I no longer waste my time watching these documentaries.
 
Hey !lets be honest here. NG paid BIG bucks for the document. That kept it under wraps to get maximum titillation- why? So they could sell media to the public and make money.Very simple .So now they make this cruddy documentary so they can sell the public more crud and make more money! And it goes on and on. Many scholars think it’s just excerpts from different Gnostic documents- and they got snookered. So they in turn have to snooker us!.To bad- no integrity left on their part.
