I never understood the argument that people have that he was speaking symbolically. Sometimes they’ll appeal to where Jesus said that he was speaking in spirit and truth, but Spirit doesn’t mean symbolic.

When Jesus was doing communion he was fulfilling the Passover of the people when they came out of the land of Egypt. They had to kill the Passover lamb and eat it and they had to put the blood on the door post of each house so when the death angel passed over their house and saw the blood then their firstborn was spared and not killed. When you fulfill something you bring it to its end or completion. Jesus was not instituting communion. Institute means to start up or to begin. Jesus was fulfilling the law and was bringing it to a higher and spiritual level. He said in Luke 22:15-18. With desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I say unto you I will not eat thereof; until it be full filled in the kingdom of God. And he took of the cup, and gave ,thanks and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: For I say unto you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God shall come. Another scripture says I will not drink of this fruit of the vine until I drink it new in the kingdom. The reason why he says this because he’s fulfilling a physical eating and drinking under the law so he can bring in the New Testament where we will be one with him and we will be drinking in his life and he will be taking in our life as well. If you break down the word communion it means co-union with God or oneness with God. He prayed in John 17:21-23 that they all may be one,as thou father, art in me and I in thee. That they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou has sent me. Physical communion is only to make our eyes see the spiritual communion that takes place to an answer of Jesus’s prayer of us being one with him in the father. We must remember when Jesus was upon the earth he was fulfilling not instituting. The New Testament starts after he pours out his blood. The Bible starts the New Testament at his birth which is contrary to scripture itself. A testament is a will. A will is not valid until someone or something dies. When the Ten Commandments or any covenant was valid was only after they sprinkled the book or covenant with the blood of a sacrifice. Hebrews 9:16-17 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator live the. Scripture proves that the New Testament is only I. Force or validated after death.
