I think the OP is most likely aware of the meaning of the Biblical passage, and is simply pointing out the coincidence that in the current socio-political environment, it is those on the radical left who seek the destruction of traditional Catholic values including marriage and the family, and the transformation of America into a secularist/atheist, socialist state.

Thanks. I figured as much, but felt I didn’t have enough evidence in the original post to go by that. It is true that there are those politically pushing for godlessness, but not all democrats or those on the political left are “evil”. Some are just ignorant and some are just loyal to a party that they have been loyal to for years. (It used to be more Catholics were Democrats!)

I see extremists in both sides- left and right.   And just because a person on the right touts that they believe in God and values that seem godly does not mean that they really do.   Hitler first presented himself as a man of god and later it turned into its own godless religion.   Pharisees in Christ's day might have gone a similar route as well.

God is not a political party… I suppose this is my point. That and the fact that studying what goats really are like as compared to sheep might be more useful to ponder than the coincidence of what is going on today.

I’m glad you pointed this out- Hitler’s “Catholicism” was indeed only a shell, which he abandoned in favor of his Nordic pagan, Aryan supremacist philosophy as soon as he consolidated power.

The problem with the radical left is that their values are diametrically opposed to Catholic moral teachings. The Constitution Party, one example of a rightist political party active today in the US, is pro-God, pro-Jesus Christ, anti-same sex “marriage” and anti-abortion. These are fundamental to orthodox Catholicism as well.

The OP was only about the ideology of America’s political “left”. I recognize that not everyone who identifies as “liberal” accepts all of the dogmas of liberalism. I made no claim that America’s political “right” is sinless or that Republican is God’s political party, and I don’t agree with every political position of American “Conservatism”. For example, I think Bush (and Democrats who voted for it with him) made a mistake by going back to war with Iraq, and I don’t agree with popular conservative opinion on immigration.

The same errors of socialism and moral relativism that has happened to America’s political “left” and has resulted in an attack on traditional Christian family values could possibly happen one day to America’s political “right”. This same thing that happened to the Democrat party could one day happen to the Republican party. I’m only talking about how things currently are in the world at the moment and how it compares to what Jesus said it would be like at the end on Judgment Day. I made no claim of infallibility of the possible connections I’m suggesting. I hope this disclaimer helps.

Perhaps that’s what you meant to say, livingwordunity, but it’s certainly not what you wrote: rather, it read like a condemnation of everyone on the liberal “left” as being those whom Christ identified as damned, and the only basis for that condemnation was their political affiliation.
