I was watching a Mother Angelica episode, and she told a story of how one day, when she was feeling particularly frustrated about something, she had gone into the chapel alone. She said she kept asking, “Why, Lord, do You want me to do all of these things that You know I can’t handle? Why? Why me?” Then she said, "And Jesus said to me, in a very gentle voice, ‘Yes. And why Me?’ "
I remember her having told this story before, and if I could have, I would have just asked her. She never said whether she literally heard His voice speaking to her, or if she just meant it came into her mind, her heart.
Last Sunday morning, not long after I had come home from church, I was thinking about an ongoing thing that I’ve complained to myself about every day. Then, and I didn’t actually hear a voice, but these words came into my mind: “That upsets Me more than that does.” I wondered if it was Jesus, whispering that into my heart. If it was, He meant that my complaining every day upsets Him more than my unwanted, uncontrolled thoughts do. My unwanted thoughts are a thing that I’m concerned about. But if it really was Him saying this to me, then it has put me at ease. He told me that something I can control upsets Him more than something I can’t. Which, I suppose, would only make sense.
Should I believe this really happened?
I just love to talk about deep things like this.
Has anyone else had something like it happen? Have you ever actually heard the voice of Jesus in your own life, really heard it?

Yes! I’ve had this happen to me on a few occasions. When it happened, It was like hearing someone speak to me audibly…but instead through my ears, it was directly in my mind…only way I can explain it. And I also can say that, when it happened, I had no question in my mind it was Him.

I think that only you can know whether it was Jesus or not, but I also think that what you heard is awesomely profound and true.

This may sound strange, but I believe Jesus speaks to me in my dreams. Nothing outstanding, visionary, or mystical; just little pokes and prods where He is telling me to do better. I think Jesus might speak to a lot of people this way when they are relaxed and receptive to His voice. Our days are so filled and distracted that maybe He can only reach us as we wind down. What do you think? Does Jesus speak to you in your dreams?

After my divorce I was completely broken and felt terrible about my part in the failed marriage.

I was praying at my Church St Mary’s and I felt in my heart, not audibly, the words
Be at Peace… I looked up and to my left ( just a few feet in front of me as I was in the 3rd front pew) was the statue of Jesus and his Sacred Heart.

I felt an overwhelming sense of peace about the marriage and closed the door on the anger, guilt and sadness regarding the marriage.

I feel it was a “sign from God” I was meant to move forward, not live in the past. I had confessed my sins of failure in confession but couldn’t let go of the guilt and shame I felt.

From that moment forward I never looked back in regards to my marriage. A moment of peace and a changed life.

Thanks be to God…

Mary.

Though God typically communicates to people by apparitions and dreams of Jesus, the Blessed Mother, or the saints, it is not unheard of to hear God’s voice. Some people have heard God “speaking to their hearts.” These messages are not audibly heard, but there is a very large distinction between that and simply hearing your voice in your head. God perhaps “spoke to your heart.”
Others hear God audibly! Fr. Josh Waltz heard God’s voice twice. These typically are very short messages. In Fr. Waltz’ account, God simply said, “Run!,” and, “Go inside.”
What you said may have been really Jesus, but only you can be able to tell. I suggest that you pray to Jesus to discern His messages, and tell your local priest after Mass–just pull him aside after he’s done shaking hands with the parishioners. The priest will tell you the best way to make of that message.
Many prayers and God bless!

Interestingly, yes. It was actually quite audible and loud enough too. A stern but gentle kind of voice, calling out to me and saying my name one morning. Thought it could have been my dad, but, my dad doesn’t sound like that and he doesn’t call me by the name that the voice had used.

Hmm, people tend to get skeptical about mystic things like this, but I’ve been thinking about it for some time. I’ve gotten so many lifetime personal signal graces, I get this sense I’ll definitely find out what’s really up, soon enough.

Hmm actually, it’s interesting that Mother Angelica had thought she heard Christ actually speak to her after feeling frustrated. I heard that voice sternly but gently call me out by name, when I was feeling frustrated as well.

I think Christ gets extremely frustrated when we get frustrated. He really doesn’t like it because we will never actually suffer as much as He did.

Jesus hears the very whispers of our soul and cares for us deeply. Maybe when He recognized that you were in trouble, He saved you from yourself. Why not you? Could you be one of Gods elect?

I am jealous of those who have this kind of personal relationship with the Lord Jesus.

I remember being very troubled by the prayer Lord, have mercy. It seemed to me odd that we were begging God for something, like He was reluctant to do it. During adoration, I felt Jesus say to my heart “I am not asking you to beg because I am reluctant but because I want your heart to be joined to My desire to have mercy” I make no claim to be a great mystic, but it comforted me, and when I pray Lord, have mercy now, I do so with a heart of compassion. Which I think is good fruit.
