Jesus is calling you today, right now ,to be a Saint. How will you answer that call?

Well, I am just starting to read about JoseMaria Escriva. I am also reading about the Eastern Orthodox theology on this. 😉

Trying to live long enough to become one 😉 It will take some time I’m afraid, at the pace I’m going on…

St. Thomas Aquinas said if you want to be a saint, all you have to do is will it. St. Therese is a great example of someone who did just that. 🙂

Thomas Merton once wrote ‘For me to be a saint means to be myself. . . Therefore the problem of sanctity and salvation is in fact the problem of finding out who I am and discovering my true self.’ If you really unpack the idea of ‘discovering my true self’ - discovering the uniqueness that God has called you to - I think Merton was absolutely right…

How will you answer that call?
I will probably answer something along the lines of “good afternoon, this is Paul.” Phone ettiquette is ever so important… especially when it’s God calling!

Is it really that simple?

If I wish to be a saint, aren’t I falling into the sin of pride?

The way I understand it is its really a vocation of sorts that all of us are called to answer, so no its not prideful to want to be its more like something we are called to be and we need to remember that each and every day.

Kinda like our job description and its a high pressure job., but it can be done if we only apply for it. Because Jesus tells us we can do it.

Ok. Not that I’m looking for a St. Mommyof4 parish to be set up anytime in the future, but I do desire to be as holy as God wants me to be.

Hey wait a minute! I am hoping to go to that parish someday! It has a nice ring to it.🙂

To turn this around a bit, if I may…

if we sometimes fear we are being led in a direction to someday be one… but we ask Him that we not be… is this a sin of abandonment?

You’re probably right. I just don’t want to wish/hope for/pray for the wrong thing.

I understand completely, I worry about that sometimes. I don’t think it’s a sin to wish to be a Saint, if you are asking for the right reasons and not for personal glorification.

My question was serious though, is it being selfish or a sin to ask that you don’t suffer anymore even if you feel He might have a purpose in mind for it to continue?

Not if all you desire is your Feast day to be All Saints Day 😉 . We should all strive for heroic virtue and sanctity. Likewise, when we get to Heaven, we should desire to spend it doing good on earth through our intercession. 🙂

Don’t worry, God will know what is right for you.😉 And no matter how hard you try, you will never ever attain anything without God’s grace. So many saints prayed for martyrdom and lived into a ripe old age… but they were still canonized afterwards… 😃

Margaret33;2208401My question was serious though said:
I’ve wondered this too. There have been times that I thought that the crosses I’ve had to bear are more than I can take. I have literally been on my knees praying that God take them away. But then I’ve also gotten the feeling that I can bear them if somehow they bring me closer to Him.

I know that there have been some crosses in my life that I have simply walked away from and told God “no way.” Sin? Probably.
