My doctor (who knows I’m a Christian) told me of a recent archeological dig that appears to have found the tomb of Jesus (but with Jesus’ bones included). I have never heard of it. Any thoughts/ links/ info?

If it was true, how much would it matter/ change your faith? I once thought you believed evoloution or God. Then I found that the RCC teaches evolution. I still believe in God. If Jesus’ actions were mythologised and exaggerated, would that make our faith invalid?

a non-invent based on a TV sensationalized documentary of an archeological site found many years ago, since debunked all over the media, was widely discussed on this forum, try secular news or Catholic news forums for your search, if you try keyword tomb you will probably find it, along with dozens of links in secular and Catholic press debunking the whole documentary and the shoddy work of its producer.

Oh ye, is it that tomb in the BBC documentary that said the word Jesus and Mary in it and so we are to assume they he was the Jesus the Gospel was written about.

Next time you see a grave with Tomas on it assume that I’m dead. 😃

Ye, basically the idea that this tomb belonged to Jesus Christ was slaughtered by scientists several many years ago. But I guess if you want to earn some money you have to forget this detail.

…And the RCC does not teach evolution.
The Holy Father made a statement to the effect that evolution was a valid scientific theory, and that a Catholic could consider it as such.
“Valid scientific theory” does not mean “proven true”.

Aaww mate. Fairdinkum. How’s life down under, eh? :tiphat:

Ya can’t believe everything that shows up from an American documentary. Some of these capitalists go overboard, in search of the big dollar in the sky.

This tomb thing was a big moneymaking prospect, along the lines of the Davinci Code. They really stretched their conclusions beyond reason. They also didn’t mention the full results of their DNA analysis, since the DNA didn’t conclusively show anything.
They only subjected couple of the bones to the analysis, but not all of them. It was done on purpose.:banghead:

As a side note, the surest way to know that a “sensational” archaelogical find is hokum is that it is revealed on The Discovery Channel during Holy Week.

The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ is an essential belief of the Christian faith.

14if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. 15We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified of God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. 16For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised. 17If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. 18Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all men most to be pitied. (1 Corinthians 15:14-19)

The “documentary” produced by the “Discovery” channel can be rented from Blockbuster if you want to spend a Friday night pointing out the obvious holes in the “archeologist’s” theories (note how many times that what they started off as saying “It is possible that these bones belonged to Mary” becomes "Mary’s bones were found in the same tomb, so these are very possibly Jesus’s " or “This might say ‘Jose’ which was possibly a nickname of Jesus’s brother Joseph” mysteriously metamorphs into “We mentioned Jesus’s brother Jose before-” )

Yeah, Blockbuster should have it, possibly in the Comedy section.

The Church doesn’t actually teach evolution. She teaches that at this point we don’t know the details of creation so we can choose to believe evolution might have been part of creation, or not.

yep, and that’s what she’s always taught. Creationists have simply oft dominated the discussions in the past. The Church’s teaching was/is always consistent, only the differing theories were different.

Not true in real life. When I found out the surprising bit of info that the RCC accepts theistic evolution as an acceptible theory on the origin of man, most Catholics I told were astounded. Some did say, Oh yes, JPII, but most said, “that is not what I was taught at school by the nuns.” Some even asked who told me, or asked if I was joking. Suggest rereading the section in the RCC that refers to the authors of Scripture. eg

Some are so liberal in their theology that I have sometimes wonder if they do actually believe in the Resurrection anyway. This includes priests.

I think everyone knows about the Talpiot tomb. It’s pretty simple to break down, but if you need a good rebuttal against your friend’s claims, have him read The Jesus Tomb: Is It Fact or Fiction? Scholars Chime In. You can also access JesusTombReview.com

Hi

Now what would have seemed impossible to my Catholic friends, in view of the above verses of the NTBible, has perhaps happened. Kindly access the following link:Jesus Lived in India- Holger Kersten- a German Scholar: sol.com.au/kor/7_01.htm
I give here a passage from it:-

The historian Mullah Nadini (1413) also recounts a story of Yuz Asaf who was a contemporary to King Gopadatta, and confirms that he also used the name Issar, ie. Jesus. There is also much historical truth in the towns and villages of Northern India to prove that Jesus and his mother Mary spent time in the area. For instance, at the border of a small town called Mari, there is nearby a mountain called Pindi Point, upon which is an old tomb called Mai Mari da Asthan or “The final resting place of Mary”. The tomb is said to be very old and local Muslims venerate it as the grave of Issa’s (ie Christ’s) Mother. The tomb itself is oriented East-West consistent with the Jewish tradition, despite the fact it is within a Muslim area. Assuming its antiquity, such a tomb could not be Hindu either since the Hindus contemporary to Christ cremated their dead and scattered their ashes as do Hindus today.

It is an interesting read and informative. One could make one’s own opinion.

Thanks

LOL! So we got Paarsurrey’s vote of confidence that the tomb in Isreal is a fake. Yeah I had an idiot friend who was all astounded by the Gospel of Judas. I’m sure the tomb of “Jesus” rocked his world too. I have heard the holy family names were common in antiquity so I have no doubt that Jesus is actually in the tomb. It’s just a “Jesus” that no one cares about.

Yep, according to JesusTombReview.com, one out of 12 Jesus was “Jesus son of Joseph”.

I heard that one of the TV program canceling interview with those folks who claim this non-sense.
