Jesus' Tomb

In a usnet group I frequent in order to get ‘the straight dope’, one poster claimed:

There are several spots in Jerusalem alone where he was claimed to be buried

As far as I know the only spots are the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, and the Garden Tomb, which is a late 1800’s location lacking in any historical credibility, and is mainly frequented by Protetestants.

What are these other places if they exist? Or are there just the two.

Those are the only 2 I’ve ever heard of - unless you listen to the brain-donors at the “Jesus Seminar”.:whacky:
They contend that Jesus was never buried but was probably eaten by the wild dogs that roamed the execution grounds!

Never heard of the Garden Tomb, but I suppose the protestants need someplace in Jerusalem that they can call their own, even if it lacks historical authenticity.

The Garden Tomb is the “Protestant” tomb, the Church of the Holy Sephechre is the actual tomb.

I do not think that Protestants claim that the Garden Tomb is the actual tomb of Jesus yet that is where they go because of the Scripture that says the tomb Jesus was laid in is in a garden.

The actual tomb is no longer in a garden but inside the Church of the Holy Seplechre as Christians of that day and age built huge churches over the actual holy sites.

My pastor, Fr. Pasley is a Knight of the Holy Seplechre.

Protestants become very uncomfortable in the Church of the Holy Seplechre because they are not familiar to all the trappings in the church. The lampadas, the incense, the chanting, the black robed Eastern monks, etc. The Garden tomb, although not THE tomb, suffices for them and feel more comfortable visiting.
