You can have your opinion, but that doesn’t wash with most of the parishes.

FWIW, on the first page of Gather Comprehensive it clearly states:
Published with the approval of Committee on Liturgy, National Conference of Catholic Bishops.
So there’s that.

Every song (hymn, spiritual, random song) sung at Mass should be theologically sound. Songs are one of the best ways to teach, our brains soak up words when they are set to music (how many of us “sing” the childhood alphabet song or a “Schoolhouse Rock” tune in our heads to this day).

The Protestant side of the world knows this, that is why Sunday School songs are so important. Kids learn passages of Scripture, the books of the Bible in order, much of Christian teaching from Sunday School songs.
A quick google indicates that this hymn is found in the Gather Hymnal which is approved by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Have had a couple of priests who do sing the Mass, it is wonderful <3

That is a new group to me, maybe Canadian? ETA, looks like that was a group that was absorbed by the USCCB a few decades ago.

That may be where the difference comes from, your edition of Gather must be pre USCCB.

The Gather Comprehensive 3rd Edition has no endorsement.

Our hymnal has songs arranged by Advent, Lent, Missions, etc. Maybe they need a section for poetry?
