Has anyone ever been told that? My jaw hit the floor when I was told that the other day. Is that simply a Baptist train of thought or does every Protestant denomination believe they have the “true” church and Jesus was a_________? I am very curious.

I’m pretty sure it’s a fairly common thing. In fact, I think Catholicism is about the only church that doesn’t claim that. Jesus wasn’t a Catholic, he was Jewish. St. Peter was Catholic, as were the apostles.

Telling them that doesn’t help lol

Yes, I have been told that.

Also that St. Paul of Tarsus was a Calvanist.

The best to approach this is to mention to the protestant at hand what other protestants believe, and the mention that they both claim to be bible believing, and the fact that the Holy Spirit is not a spirit of contradiction… Wait for the reply that there were different beliefs during the early Church… then just point to them the scripture in Acts that talks about ONE FAITH ONE BELIEF, and the early Church fathers discussing about the Apostolic tradition. Lastly, mention to them the history of the scriptures… last nail in the coffin. Don’t forget to point out that every time they quote SCRIPTURE in the NT, they are talking about another set of scriptures not their current bibles.👍

I wouldn’t say all Baptists believe that. Our resident Reformed Baptist on CAF, Byzyntine Wolf I’m sure would say that as well.
This theory is put forth by Fundamentalist Baptists through “the Trail of Blood” booklet, which itself is based on a turn of the century work trying to prove Baptists were the original Christians dating back to the early Church.

Typical… They try to trace themselves back to the Apostles or they talk about apostasy (big or smalls), and about recovering the Gospel through the reformers… 🤷

Better late than never. Stop sleeping so late

Jesus is also a Red Sox fan for those that care to know. 😉
I’ve heard that Jesus was a Baptist but it was more in jest than anything else. Had something to do with him being baptized. You might be kidding but if not, this is likely the equivalent of Catholics worshiping idols.

I think you’re right that Jesus is a Red Sox fan but God hates them.

I know and the majority of Baptist are not Reformed either. They differ very widely among the sects. He could have been the sect that is trying to prove Christ was a “Baptist.”

What do you mean by the part I bolded?

Now that cannot be. If Christ is a Red Sox fan then God is as well. 😉 Godhead 👍 but i suspect St. Paul was a Skankee fan

I don’t know about Baptists here in Britain or the US. But according to the Church of England Jesus was Jewish.

.
I think that every church that attempts to follow the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth–be it Catholic, Baptist, Mormon, Orthodox, cults, etc-- believes that THEY are the “correct” church properly established by Jesus.
If they didn’t think this way, the church would not exist and people would not join.

.
hmmmm

So God is a God of contradiction, right? Denominations are relativism with regards to His Absolute Truth. Interestingly, we do know that the Apostles existed, and that their successors existed, and… exist today. The question is where are they now? I wonder from which Church every church breaks apart from… where is this Mother church? 🤷
