I know what they believe too… That does not make me a Mormon either however…If you are not Mormon, then how do you know this is what they believe?

You always write me a discourse, When you do this give me a interpretation of each scripture, so I know your thinking. Here’s 4 Ezra 6:1-34:
“And he said unto me, In the beginning, when the earth was made, before the borders of the world stood, or ever the winds blew, Before it thundered and lightened, or ever the foundations of paradise were laid, Before the fair flowers were seen, or ever the moveable powers were established, before the innumerable multitude of angels were gathered together, Or ever the heights of the air were lifted up, before the measures of the firmament were named, or ever the chimneys in Sion were hot, And ere the present years were sought out, and or ever the inventions of them that now sin were turned, before they were sealed that have gathered faith for a treasure: Then did I consider these things, and they all were made through me alone, and through none other: by me also they shall be ended, and by none other. Then answered I and said, What shall be the parting asunder of the times? or when shall be the end of the first, and the beginning of it that followeth? And he said unto me, From Abraham unto Isaac, when Jacob and Esau were born of him, Jacob’s hand held first the heel of Esau. For Esau is the end of the world, and Jacob is the beginning of it that followeth. The hand of man is betwixt the heel and the hand: other question, Esdras, ask thou not. I answered then and said, O Lord that bearest rule, if I have found favour in thy sight, I beseech thee, shew thy servant the end of thy tokens, whereof thou shewedst me part the last night. So he answered and said unto me, Stand up upon thy feet, and hear a mighty sounding voice. And it shall be as it were a great motion; but the place where thou standest shall not be moved. And therefore when it speaketh be not afraid: for the word is of the end, and the foundation of the earth is understood. And why? because the speech of these things trembleth and is moved: for it knoweth that the end of these things must be changed. And it happened, that when I had heard it I stood up upon my feet, and hearkened, and, behold, there was a voice that spake, and the sound of it was like the sound of many waters. And it said, Behold, the days come, that I will begin to draw nigh, and to visit them that dwell upon the earth, And will begin to make inquisition of them, what they be that have hurt unjustly with their unrighteousness, and when the affliction of Sion shall be fulfilled; And when the world, that shall begin to vanish away, shall be finished, then will I shew these tokens: the books shall be opened before the firmament, and they shall see all together: And the children of a year old shall speak with their voices, the women with child shall bring forth untimely children of three or four months old, and they shall live, and be raised up. And suddenly shall the sown places appear unsown, the full storehouses shall suddenly be found empty: And tha trumpet shall give a sound, which when every man heareth, they shall be suddenly afraid. At that time shall friends fight one against another like enemies, and the earth shall stand in fear with those that dwell therein, the springs of the fountains shall stand still, and in three hours they shall not run. Whosoever remaineth from all these that I have told thee shall escape, and see my salvation, and the end of your world. And the men that are received shall see it, who have not tasted death from their birth: and the heart of the inhabitants shall be changed, and turned into another meaning. For evil shall be put out, and deceit shall be quenched. As for faith, it shall flourish, corruption shall be overcome, and the truth, which hath been so long without fruit, shall be declared. And when he talked with me, behold, I looked by little and little upon him before whom I stood. And these words said he unto me; I am come to shew thee the time of the night to come. If thou wilt pray yet more, and fast seven days again, I shall tell thee greater things by day than I have heard. For thy voice is heard before the most High: for the Mighty hath seen thy righteous dealing, he hath seen also thy chastity, which thou hast had ever since thy youth. And therefore hath he sent me to shew thee all these things, and to say unto thee, Be of good comfort and fear not And hasten not with the times that are past, to think vain things, that thou mayest not hasten from the latter times.”
**From what I understand Ezra is a descendant of Aaron (Moses’ older brother), even Phinehas, who slew the fornicators and stayed the plague of the Lord.
P.S.: I’ll try to pick up a conversation with you at your thread, “What is truth?” Things like this will be more appropriate there.**
I was asking a question, prier to this and someone claimed I was Mormon, I also know what they believe, some of their concepts I could believe in. thanks, we don’t need to go further.I know what they believe too… That does not make me a Mormon either however…
Private interpretation of Scripture is not sinister, it’s unbiblical.Though many times I have read the argument that private interpretation of the Bible is sinister, I think it is a too all inclusive judgment because it implies that an impure motive is automatically associated with it. For me, during various traumatic events, I believed I had seen the Christ. Also, I had been told many times that Christ was, in essence, anti-Christ, and I wondered how this conclusion was reached as I knew the one making the statement had also read the Bible. So, for me, perhaps my initial investigation into scripture was to decipher how someone could, “get it wrong.” Moreover, it was only until then that I understood the implications that some may have inferred when I told them I saw, or thought I saw, the Christ.
(Sorry this goes off-topic, but it needs to be clarified real quick.Don’t you? As a Christian you should know that God took human form and visited with Abram and Sarai on his way to check the truth of the rumors that Sodom was queer town
“…the Methodists say the Holy Spirit teaches them the Trinity is three persons in one God.”Private interpretation of Scripture is not sinister, it’s unbiblical.
2 Peter 1:20, “Know this well: no prophecy of Scripture can be handed over to private interpretation.”
Imagine every American with the right to private interpretation of the Laws of the USA. No judges, no Supreme Court, just individuals interpreting the laws as it best fits them. What would the result be? Chaos!
Look at the results of private interpretation among no Catholic Christians:
Most of the Protestant denominations believe that the Holy Spirit ‘teaches’ them the truth. We know there is only one truth. With individual interpretation of Scripture, what you have is a proliferation (now in the thousands) of Protestants denominations, each of them claiming the Holy Spirit is teaching them the truth, but in fact it’s teaching all of them opposing viewpoints. Although all the following denominations teach from the same Bible, look at the differences in teaching:
The Lutherans say the Holy Spirit teaches them the Eucharist is the true presence of Christ, the Baptists say the Holy Spirit teaches them it’s only a symbol.
The Methodists say the Holy Spirit teaches them it is alright to have female ministers, the Baptists say the Holy Spirit teaches them it is unbiblical.
The Seventh Day Adventists say the Holy Spirit teaches them that Saturday is the day of worship, the Presbyterians say the Holy Spirit teaches them the day of worship is Sunday and not Saturday.
The Lutherans say the Holy Spirit teaches them that the Blessed Virgin Mary was and remains always virgin, the Baptists say the Holy Spirit teaches them she had other children.
The Baptists say the Holy Spirit teaches them ‘once saved always saved’, the Church of Christ say the Holy Spirit teaches them that Sola Fides is unscriptural.
The Episcopalians say the Holy Spirit teaches them to baptize infants, the Pentecostals say the Holy Spirit teaches them infant baptism is invalid.
The Mormons say the Holy Spirit teaches them that the Holy Trinity is three separate persons, the Methodists say the Holy Spirit teaches them the Trinity is three persons in one God.
The ones in blue are correct, the others “have it wrong”.
God bless you
The Trinity is the term employed to signify the central doctrine of the Christian religion — the truth that in the unity of the Godhead there are Three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, these Three Persons being truly distinct one from another.“…the Methodists say the Holy Spirit teaches them the Trinity is three persons in one God.”
God is not a person.
John 4:24,
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
P.S.: I have more to write as an address to you[r arguments], but I must organize the relevant scriptures and manifest an understandable analysis first. It might take some time, but I’ll try to make it my next post at this thread.
from above quote:God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He is the same God today as the One when Paul wrote his letters. But I rather let Saint Augustine reply to you:
“Our Lord Jesus Christ, however, who came to liberate mankind, in which both males and females are destined to salvation, was not averse to males, for He took the form of a male, nor to females, for of a female He was born. Besides, there is a great mystery here: that just as death comes to us through a woman, Life is born to us through a woman; that the devil, defeated, would be tormented by each nature, feminine and masculine, since he had taken delight in the defection of both.”
Saint Augustine, Christian Combat (22,24) 396 A.D. (Jurgens-1578)
Mary, a woman, is the most perfect creature that has ever existed. She, a creature of God, became the “Mother of God”. What an honor given to women. There is no equivalent creature known as the “Father of God”.
I’m sure you know how other religions treat women as opposed to how women are treated in our Church. Yet we are the “bad guys.” This sound like what is said about some Americans who say “blame America first”, which in in our case is “blame Catholics first.”
God bless you
I would not want to risk my soul at finding out. Especially since Christ said this to the ministers He appointed as he was sending them out:So, what exactly does everyone believe these verses mean: John 15:26,John 14:16-17,John 14:26? Can we deduce that Jesus is promising that the Father will send an Advocate to us, who will lead us into Spirit and Truth? Does it mean that if we aren’t catholic, or other religions, who believe similarly, we are shut out from the Advocate; or that what He says or directs us to, is wrong? And do you really, honestly believe that, on that Judgement Day, God is going to ask us,"Why did you believe/not believe that Mary was. was not a perpetual virgin?![]()
I believe that there is only one religion and one Church started by Christ, and I believe that all Christians, regardless of their stature, are obligated to share the Good News–all of it, as transmitted by Christ to His Catholic Church. I reject the sharing of anyone else’s version, or a partial, watered-down version, or any version that leaves out the fullness of revelation about Christ and his Church, as we are called to reject all persons preaching a different gospel. 2 Cor. 11:4, Gal. 1:8-9.sonofmanica: Do you believe that we as Christians, regardless of our religious affiliation, are charged with going, and spreading the Good News?
Well, again, I’m not sure you and I have the same message, if you reject the Catholic Church that Christ built, and the Church’s role in salvation. But yes, folks have free will and may reject Christ. They do so when they reject the faith once delivered to the saints. Jude 3.If the lost reject our message(by exercising free will), are they rejecting Christ, in essence?
I am in agreement with this statement. I would only add for clarity that we are not free to preach a partial, simplified, watered-down, or different gospel than the one preserved by Christ’s Church through its bishops, councils and popes, simply because it may be easier to follow or understand.Isaiah told God,“Here am I Lord, send me!” We as believers, I believe, are charged with taking the message of salvation to all nations(Matthew 28:19-20), and we are representatives of Christ, His hands and feet. This task is not left solely to priests, popes, etc,. Yes, we need leaders, and elders, who help us to understand things, and lead this humongous flock, but we also need to be bold, and not timid, in evangelizing the world:thumbsup:
God bless youThe Trinity is the term employed to signify the central doctrine of the Christian religion — the truth that in the unity of the Godhead there are Three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, these Three Persons being truly distinct one from another.
Thus, in the words of the Athanasian Creed: “the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God, and yet there are not three Gods but one God.” In this Trinity of Persons the Son is begotten of the Father by an eternal generation, and the Holy Spirit proceeds by an eternal procession from the Father and the Son. Yet, notwithstanding this difference as to origin, the Persons are co-eternal and co-equal: all alike are uncreated and omnipotent. This, the Church teaches, is the revelation regarding God’s nature which Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came upon earth to deliver to the world: and which she proposes to man as the foundation of her whole dogmatic system.
[From The Catholic Encyclopedia: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/15047a.htm]
It is indeed a mystery. But I like to think of it as profound, more than confusing. God’s entire revelation to man has been about relationship. Relationship to God, relationship to one another as marriage, as family, as church. These relationships are so sacred that they are known as covenant relationships. And the profound part is, God himself exists as a relationship, with all the attributes of love, obedience, self-sacrifice, and mutual giving that he expects of us in our relationships with Him and others.Pretty confusing aint it? No wonder you call it a mystery.
Don’t jump to the wrong conclusion that fast.from above quote:
“I’m sure you know how other religions treat women as opposed to how women are treated in our Church. Yet we are the “bad guys.” This sound like what is said about some Americans who say “blame America first”, which in in our case is “blame Catholics first.””
and from reply #363,
“Imagine every American with the right to private interpretation of the Laws of the USA. No judges, no Supreme Court, just individuals interpreting the laws as it best fits them. What would the result be? Chaos!”
It appears you often create an association between America and Christianity that, from what I understand, does not actually exist. For example, America is not associated with Christianity, and neither is Christianity [necessarily] averse to the authority of the will of, what could be considered – at least for analogical purposes – an individual.
