you being the one asserting he was black should be the one to prove that theory.
i would imagine he would have been the same skin colour as anybody who comes from the middle east… not black but also not caucasian … sort of inbetween the two.

What does it matter? This idea is certainly not news. Not that it would be of any particular consequences if he was black, but I don’t think that would be an accurate description - as aussie_jaz said, he would have had the same colour skin as anyone else from the Middle-East. He would have been dark-skinned.

The fact that artists have portrayed Christ as a white man would prove nothing. Like early sculptures, the depictions are meant to be representative rather than realistic. They are images of Christ, not portraits! The same goes for those famous and beautiful icons of Christ, Mary and the saints - they aren’t necessarily a close likeness, but there are features included which identify the person they represent. Christ often has two fingers raised to show us that he is both human and divine. There may be marks of the Crucifixion on his body. Mary is usually depicted in pictures in a form that we associate with her - as a lady dressed in blue.

However, it is important to note that while in Northern Europe for example, Christ would be more depicted as having white skin, as one goes down towards the Mediterranean the skin gets darker! South American images also show the subject as having the same sort of skin as a South American person.

uh actually the burden of proof is on you if you propose something that is not in the bible, namely that Jesus was Jewish
the forum for discussing sacred scripture is just that, this old unfounded allegation has no bearing whatever on theme for this forum
