Why did Jesus get baptized? He was already free from original sin.

I’ve always understood that He was baptized to show us the proper way to do things. He was baptized BEFORE He officially began His ministry, was He not?
I don’t understand people who say baptism is unnecessary for a Christian. JESUS was baptized. Of all humans being He needed it the least.

We must remember too that the baptism administered by John was not the Christian Sacrament of Baptism but its precursor.I’ve always understood that He was baptized to show us the proper way to do things. He was baptized BEFORE He officially began His ministry, was He not?

Jesus’ baptism is important for at least two reasons, one of which has already been mentioned:
- By doing so, He instituted the sacrament of baptism.
- It resulted in the Holy Trinity being “manifested”: the voice of (1) the Father was heard, while (2) the Spirit descended, upon (3) the Son.

What does the sacrament of Baptism “do”?
Not only is it for the forgiveness of sins, but in Baptism we are anointed priest, prophet and king, we enter into the Church and so become members of the Body of Christ, and we are re-born in the Spirit, and clothed in light. We become a new creation.
Jesus did not need forgiveness, but it was also a new “moment” for him. It’s the start of his public ministry, and it is the moment when he is recognized by God the Father as “My Son the Beloved.” The Spirit descends upon Him at this time. Jesus is The Priest, The Prophet and The King - the one to whom we are joined in Baptism.
Jesus’ baptism is the beginning of the good News for us.

John’s baptism did not free a person of original sin that came with the institution of baptism as a sacrament. John’s baptism was not a sacrament. John asked this very thing Jesus answer wasWhy did Jesus get baptized? He was already free from original sin.
Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.

Jesus was like us in all things except sin. He was hungry and ate like us, got angry and sad like us, loved and laughed and cried like us, and was even tempted like us. And he was baptized like us.
