Jesus's clone (yes...clone)

Hi, I was watching a documentary of the Discovery Channell. They said there was another dude that looked exactly like Jesus, was named Jesus, lives around Jesus’s time, and performed miraculous healings. He didn’t die on the cross though. This shocked me. It said very few people followed Jesus no.2 as deciples and it didn’t spread very much. Does anyone have any clue of this man?
 
I have no clue about it; however, it doesn’t shock me much as I’ve seen and heard many people nowadays following the false prophets who also perform miracles, etc… In fact, Jesus has warned us about these false prophets.
 
That sort of sounds like the Muslim view of the Crucifixion. (not exact though). Many agnostics texts and gospels also point to the idea that Christ chose someone to be his “clone” during the Passion. Very illogical if you ask me.
 
it was on the Discovery channel, which is TV for people too illiterate to read National Enquirer. DC is about as reliable as NE. Give it up and find something more substantial to watch on TV, like teletubbies. The only kernel of truth in this otherwise unconvincing narrative is that there were charlatans in the 1st C who used the name of Jesus in their con games.

I don’t know about a second Jesus, but my understanding is that there was something of a messianic fever going on during the time of Jesus, and that there were other, false, claimants to the title. You had John the Baptist preaching the coming Messiah, and he got quite a bit of attention, all the way up to Herod. The birth of Jesus was attended by stellar phenomena, the Magi traveled all the way from Persia to find him, Herod had all the babies in Bethlehem put to the sword in search of the baby Jesus, etc. Then, when Jesus was presented in the Temple, Simeon and Anna were there to greet and prophesy, they having been years in wait for Him. So I think it is very understandable that there’d be some phonies making the claim for themselves, maybe even nut cases who believed themselves to be the Messiah.

Jesus warned about many false prophets claiming to be Him. He said that these false prophets would be appearing to people all the way up to His second coming, so this is not unusual.

I wouldn’t trust the Discovery Channel or National Geographic to present anything truthful about Jesus. They will show anything if they think it will get good ratings on TV.
 
Are you sure that was the Discovery Channel?

I’m pretty sure that was actually a Monty Python movie…

There may have been one yes. Not a clone exactly. At the time of Jesus, there were literally hundreds of people claiming to be the messiah. The difference was they did not claim to be the Son of Man or the Son of God.
