Over time, we have always been seeing this frame and pictures of Jesus and Mary everywhere. I believed without anyone having to argue it that all those photos we see are not Jesus’s of Mary’s true picture but just a figural representation of them. I have read somewhere that generation of Israel were “black or dark skinned”. If this is the truth, and Jesus was born more than 2018 years ago, this truly confirmed that Jesus, Mary and Joseph are black-skinned. It its also certain that Egypt is in Africa country, Many places mentioned in the Bible use to be more of Africa, even Israel has it part of African. My questions are: (1) How did we come about the Photo of Jesus and Mary used everywhere. (2) Who saw Jesus and Mary 2018 years ago and took their photos? (3) Why use a white person if the Israelis were black or dark skinned?

It’s news to me that anybody took a “photo” of anything 2018 years ago, much less of Jesus and Mary. What “photo” are you referring to?

It wouldn’t surprise me if Jesus and Mary looked like Middle Eastern people and as such, had swarthy complexions.

As for representations of Jesus and Mary in art, I have seen them portrayed as all different races and tones of skin. They are universal and, as discussed on another thread, both of them are now in glorified bodies that are not bound by earthly physical limitations, so they are free to appear any way they want, whether that’s white, black, African, Northern European, Middle Eastern, Chinese, you name it.

i love that, exactly my point but that is by faith, in the real sense. What is Jesus skin colour, who knows? He was born like you and I anyway

have you ever read History of Creation of the region? Well the world is now global, you can even google now, am sure you will find that

I have read and confirmed that generation of Israel were “black skinned”.
I suspect that you are reading people who have a racial agenda of their own. The people of Judea two thousand years ago looked about the same as they do now. Mediterranean peoples have a variety of skin tones.

@Paulfromlowa, i do not really think so though am not 100% certain but what am 100% sure of is that is never the look of Jesus and Mary

It is true that some northern European artists portray the Holy Family as lighter skinned than they likely were. However, this is the most popular US portrait of Jesus, by Warner Sallman (1940), often reproduced in darker tones than this:

Kindly reflect on the sixth station of the stations of the cross, Veronica wiped the face of Jesus and Jesus left the imprint of His image on her handkerchief. I think that summarizes the answer to your question, if you are not satisfied . I can go further

@ Falayo, yes veronica did, but all this one we are seeing here and there, is it the same one on veronica handkerchief?, who collected the handkerchief from her to trace the face of Jesus? it was also the face that was on the handkerchief not the Body. Its not like it reduced my faith in Christ’s reality but to be real because others outside will also use it to attack you. So you need tell them the truith

Perhaps it a matter of man always seeming to pervert the truth.

While God created man in His own image and likeness with all humility; man has decided to create God in his own image and likeness out of conceit.

🤨

Then how would you explain that God has literally given images appropriate to the culture and racial features of a society? I mean, we know that the Virgin Mary wasn’t Hispanic, but we have Our Lady of Guadalupe. We know she wasn’t pale and white but we have pretty accurate confirmation on the image on the Miraculous Medal. She’s appeared to others blacker than black. She’s appeared Native American. The list goes on and on.

So if you’re going to ascribe conceit to images that reflect a culture’s heritage you’re going to have to also include the Almighty.

During the four years between the death of St. Joseph and the beginning of Christ’s public ministry, this was how Jesus looked like, as revealed to St. Bridget of Sweden by the Blessed Virgin: “You are not able to see my Son as He is in Heaven, but let me describe to you his physical appearance as He was in the world.

“When He was 20 years old, He reached His full growth in manly stature and strength. He had no superfluous flesh. His muscles were well developed. And He was powerfully built. His hair, eye brows, and beard were light brown. His beard measured the width of a hand. His forehead was neither prominent nor retreating but straight and erect. His nose was well proportioned, neither large nor small. His eyes were so clear and pure that even His enemies enjoyed looking at Him. His lips were not thick, but light red. His chin was pleasing and finely proportioned. His cheeks were moderately full, and His complexion was a clear white mixed with fresh red. He held Himself straight and erect, and there was not a spot on His whole body.”

Now you can interpret that anyway you want. It is not something you are required to believe because it is private revelation.

I’m not sure why anyone loses sleep over this.
Some pictures really bother me, and some bring me comfort and peace.
As Brother of us all, and Mother of us all would it not make SENSE that artists would paint draw or sculpt in the way that is comforting and FAMILIAR to them?

This is a non-issue.
GOD IS.
CHRIST IS
MARY IS.

The idea that the Jewish people at the time of Christ were black-skinned holds no truth whatsoever.

The Jewish people avoid inter-marriage as much as possible. While it would be untrue to say that they have never inter-married, it’s more untrue to claim that somehow, over a period of only 2,000 years, they would completely change race.

It’s also a misconception (an untruth really) when people claim that anyone from the continent of Africa is necessarily black-skinned. Much of mediterranean Africa is actually caucasian, and was at the time of Christ.

If this was accurate, presumably it would have been commented on by the Gospel writers and early historians. Jesus looking Swedish in ancient Palestine would have made him quite an outlier.

I don’t think Mary was saying Jesus looked Swedish…It sounded more like the Middle Eastern tones most commonly seen today.

Upon looking at the Miraculous Image of Guadalupe, she looks much more similar to the more olive Middle Eastern skin tones also seen today.
(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Of course, all skin tones in the Middle Eastern areas vary pretty widely, many having different undertones and darkness.

St. Bridget’s revelations are accepted by the Holy Mother Church. I have no reason to believe she was lying…

If you believed He was born and he lived like human for 33 years, son of a carpenter, then you will also believe that he has a physical figure. That is what am talking about not his Divine state
