After Vatican II the Vatican quashed the story of Simone in light of what had happened to the Jews in Europe during WW II for the greater good. But does that also mean that we must quash reality along with it? Or at least debate?
They shared with Toaff, a complete lack of evidence.

So, we’re left with wondering just why we’re supposedly to comment on a “somebody might possibly have done something but there’s no evidence that they did” argument.

To what end? As if we didn’t know.

Well, what about the present day Jews of the state of Israel? Are they really the descendants of Judah?

How is that they lay this claim to the land of Palestine? How about the Christians and the Muslims, don’t they have equal right to the land of Jesus and Abraham?
What does this have to do with the topic of this thread??? Did I miss something?

Yes, Italian and Spanish are my “first” languages. English a distant third.

That’s the point. At first the University not only FUNDED some of Toaff’s researched but championed the release of the book. Then when the controversy began, they did a complete 180 refusing to use scientific method of any sort. The subject is apparently “off limits”.

Ok. So did you read the book or not? Again, it is not quasing “reality”. It is responding the nonsense as reported in the media. It seems you are already stating that the reality is that the Jews crucified christians for their blood in order to participate in sacred rituals that would go against the very commandments set forth in the Torah.

No. Saint Simone was killed violently, defiled gruesomely and his body dumped by a river. That is not in debate. Someone DID do something. The questions are a) who are the most likely supsects and b) if it turns out to be a rogue Jewish sect, why can we not pursue this line of questioning? and c) Is any evidence to this topic heretofore simply dismissed as anti-semitic?

Ok. I read the article and some of the background materials. I should have done so before I posted. I just get a little overly sensative about anti-semetic stuff. Long story, not germain.

I do have a question: does it matter?

If it is true, it was a small group relatively speaking and the behavior is no longer occuring. All of the participants are dead. SHould this change how we see modern Jews?

If it is false, why keep bringing it up?

It only matters because people will tend to increase their hatred of Jews based on a revival of this nonsense.

Why don’t we discuss whether he was abducted by a UFO and experimented on? There’s about as much evidence for it.

Of course you can and obviously are pursuing it, we’re allowed to wonder why the excitement for an explanation where there’s no evidence, only an assertion that “somebody might have done something.”

I agree Valke, but people like that will find another reason anyway. Honestly, I had never heard of this and I do not feel that my life is any better for doing so.

I have a solution. Let’s dig up the Jews in question, convict them of it, and hang them so that justice may be served. 🙂

The accused were burnt alive.
I know. I was more or less saying that what is done, is done. Unless it is going on now, I see nothing that can be gained from a footnote in history, even if it was true.

I think that’s always good advice 👍

Well, if you’re not interested, it doesn’t.😉 But you obviously felt compelled to comment, so I guess it does. You tell ME 👍

Bingo.
SHould this change how we see modern Jews?
The question is how should this change how we see the medieval church and Christianity. It lends itself to the concept of cause and effect. Why was the enitrety of Judaism reviled for the act of one sub-group? Why has the story become so pervasive? Why did it not spark dialogue and understanding? What lessons canned be learned here?
If it is false, why keep bringing it up?
If it is false, then allow people to present their evidence why it is false, just as Professor Toaff presented his evidence as to why it was a possibilty.

Why should we white-wash history at all?

This is akin to saying “If the holocaust is true, let them prove it.” It is professor Toaff who has the burden of proving his theory(if it is his theory) since it goes against Church teaching, Jewish teaching, historical evidence, etc. Given that the book has been pulled from publication, that it was only out for a week and that the author himself has stated that the media compelely misrepresented his arguments, I’d say this is a nonissue. When the protagonist of an argument has nothing to say, there’s no argument.

Unfortunately that can’t be done. Because they injested christian blood in one of the most sacred of our rituals, they have all become immortal.

Will that work for me? Must I convert first? Can I drink my own?

This is why we are forbidden to sell matzah to christians. You already possess one of the key secret ingredients.
I should have paid more attention to the faith of the Jewish girls that I knew years ago. Wait, were they temptresses of an evil cult? You can say now that I am clear of them. Boy, a couple of them were knock-outs.

Can I still eat Hebrew National Hot Dogs?

I’m pretty sure the Talmud says that if a Goyim consumes Hebrew Nationals, he himself will be consumed in strange fire. Maybe Lukewarm can shed some light on this.

Great. Now I have to worry about agrivating the Muslim posters on here, the non-Catholic Christians, AND devine retrebution for liking a no filler, all beef hot dog. Boy, it is tough to be Ralph

Seriously,

Is there a good source for these claims? Is there some way that we can see when they started and ended? Is there any documentation of any of it outside of the questionable sources?

I had never heard of this, and I know a fair amount of history.

For argument’s sake, if it was true, how can this justify hating anyone? As Christians, we are called to forgive and pray for those who injure us. I think that the good old anti-Semetic claim that Jews unfairly control the money is a better argument for disliking them than this. And I give it no credence at all

Aw Valkie, I understand you need to maintain your eating habit and the thing you do with your foreskin, but these will not get you into heaven. You still need to have a pure heart and a generous deed for chances had been given but alas you kill them, for Jesus said:

“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered together thy children, as the hen doth gather her chickens under her wings, and thou wouldest not? Behold, you house shall be left to you, desolate. For I say to you, you shall not see me henceforth till you say: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord”.

You have forfeited Jerusalem and will not see it again until you confess with your tongue and bend your knee that he is Lord. Is 45:23, Ro14:11, Php2:10-11.
