Could someone give me a quick breakdown of the main Jewish “denoms,” or sects? Conservative, Orthodox, Reform, etc., etc.? Their particular beliefs, similarities and differences…

Thanks!

This is very brief, but it will give you an idea:

Orthodox: Strict Judaism; follows writings of past Rabbis and Jewish Sages as authoritative. Messiah is an individual yet to be sent. Torah is without errors and is the Word of God.

Conservative: Mainstream Judaism; not as progressive as Reform, but not as strict as Orthodox. Some Orthodox practices are retained, but there is more room for change. Torah is viewed as Word of God.

Reform: Liberal Judaism; God and Torah important, but focuses on progressive movements in society such as women’s rights and peace. Ordains women as Rabbis. Abstract views of God include monism, panentheism, pantheism; no set view of Torah or God. Messiah is a time of peace, not an individual.

Reconstruction: Extreme Progressive; views Judaism as simple tradition. God and afterlife as described in Torah are primitive superstitions. Man has evolved in his understandings and the Torah is a good reading on the history of the Jews, but subject to many errors. Messiah is figurative.

The last three groups were formed in the 19th and 20th centuries. Most come from Europe.

I’m sure others can fill in more and so will I if you’d like 👍

Prayers and petitions,

Hi

For Judaism denominations, following website provides good information.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judaism#Jewish_denominations

Those who would like to see the Judaism- a revealed religion, please see following analysis in Quran, which could be useful in uniting them into one United Judaism.

[30:30] Nay, but those, who are unjust, follow their own low desires without knowledge. Then who can guide him whom Allah lets go astray? There will be no helpers for them.
[30:31] So set thy face to the service of religion with single-minded devotion. And follow the nature made by Allah, the nature according to which He has fashioned mankind. There is no altering the creation of Allah. That is the right religion - but most men know not -
[30:32] So you all turn to Him, in repentance, and seek His protection and observe Prayer, and be not of those who associate partners with Allah -
[30:33] Of those who split up their religion and have become divided into sects, every party rejoicing in what they have.

I would say that one should not rejoice in denominations, one should always support Unity in a faith.

Thanks

what about Sunni and Shia?

These help a lot! I love the Jewish faith… I’m particularly drawn to the Conservative and Orthodox movements.

Ha, ha, if you’ve never heard of him, Matisyahu is a Hasidic-Jewish artist who does regee-style music based on his faith and is popular with a lot of Jews and Christians. It’s awesome in a very strange way…
