My nephew and his Jewish wife just had a little girl. If it had been a boy, there would have been a bris(?). Is there any kind of ceremony for a girl baby?

My nephew wasn’t brought up Catholic so no baptism:nope:

Shalom
For your nephew and wife for the little one Mazel tov. Only in some reformed temples is there a service for jewish girls. The reason why is that a bris is the ceremony of circumcision which according to jewish law is performed 8 days after a boy is born where the foreskin of the penis is removed. Since girls have neither a foreskin nor a penis they don’t undergo the ritual. There are some reformed temples where skin is removed from the clitoris- not recommended! The commandment of circumcision dates back to the time of Abraham as a sign of being part of the covenant and at that time the child is given a name in israel.
Around the age of 12 to 14 a boy reads the torah in hebrew and explains it to the assembled congregation. This is called a bar mitzvah after the ceremony kinda like a confirmation the boy is then a man and is required to keep torah (law of moses- 1st 5 books of the Bible) In reformed temples girls recieve a similar honor called a bat mitzvah at which time they become a woman.

There are but they’re not religiously significant in the same way - you have to remember that, traditionally, men have more religious obligations than women (something they’re supposed to be pleased about, like we’re all supposed to be pleased about being ‘chosen’ to have to live by all those rules that other people don’t have to bother about!).

Kind of like being chosen for the ‘gifted and talented’ class and then you find out you get to work twice as hard.😃

Secret prayer of Jewish women at Passover (which is a nightmare of cleaning and preparation): “We should never have left Egypt!”
