It has recently been reported that successful attempts to reconnect wombs in various animals have been done. In fact, four sheep have become pregnant after having their wombs removed and then reconnected.
This is apparently is an important step towards successful womb transplants in humans. This raises some interesting questions for me concerning a Jewish identity. More specifically, it is well known that the Jewish identity of the child is dependent on the Jewish identity of the mother.
I guess my question for the Jewish audience is what would happen if a Jewish woman received the womb of a Gentile woman?
Would the child born to the Jewish woman be considered a Jew or a Gentile?
Actually, let’s move one step closer and assume this development makes it to the next stage.
