I do not understand why there seems to be such a tension between the Islamic world and the Jewish world. What is the history and what are the reasons for this tension?

Here is a post from liberatednow.blogspot.com
Shakila is a woman in a muslim country who has left islam and this is her revised view of the jewish people.

Ever since I can remember, I have always been a Zionist. To understand this, we have to go back to my childhood, in fact my school days. I have always heard an extremely negative and detrimental description about the Jewish people, that they are the most cunning, mean, ruthless, selfish, self centered, conniving, greedy and sick people. I always used to counter-question those in authority about why are they supposed to be so bad, and I always got very petty reasons, saying because they killed innocent Muslims and still are killing so many innocent Muslims in Palestine, and mainly because they killed so many prophets. I had never personally met a Jew in my life (actually I still have not met any), but from what I had seen, heard and read in the media, they seemed like pretty normal people with two hands, two feet, two eyes, two ears and a nose, and they definitely do not have horns on their heads. It was only recently that I discovered that the Jews are actually the oppressed and not the oppressor as otherwise claimed by the Arabs. To understand my point of view, it is very vital that you all know the true historical background of Israel and the Jews. This lesson in history is especially imperative for the ignorant and misinformed Muslims who are totally oblivious to the facts, so here it goes.
Code:
1. Israel became a nation in 1312 BCE, two thousand years before the rise of Islam.

2. Arab refugees in Israel began identifying themselves as part of a Palestinian people in 1967, two decades after the establishment of the modern State of Israel.

3. Since the Jewish conquest in 1272 BCE, the Jews have had dominion over the land for one thousand years, with a continuous presence in the land for the past 3,300 years.

4. The only Arab dominion since the conquest in 635 CE lasted no more than 22 years.

5. For over 3,300 years, Jerusalem has been the Jewish capital. Jerusalem has never been the capital of any Arab or Muslim entity. Even when the Jordanians occupied Jerusalem, they never sought to make it their capital, and Arab leaders did not come to visit.

6. Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in Tanach, the Jewish Holy Scriptures. Jerusalem is not mentioned once in the Koran.

7. King David founded the city of Jerusalem. Mohammed never came to Jerusalem.

8. Jews pray facing Jerusalem. Muslims pray with their backs toward Jerusalem.

9. In 1948 the Arab refugees were encouraged to leave Israel by Arab leaders promising to purge the land of Jews. Sixty-eight percent left without ever seeing an Israeli soldier.

May be this has something to do with it. According to Genesis 16:12
The angel of the Lord made this prophesy about Ishmael: " He shall be a wild *** of a man, his hand against everyone, and everyone’s hand against him; In opposition to all his kin shall he encamp."

:blessyou: odhiambo, exactly http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon14.gif, every answer for this world problems is available in the Bible, we only have to read it…

This goes back to the time of Mohammed , since he made allegations against the jews .and kicked all three tribes from their city and killed many of them for different reasons , most due to a conspiracy theories that they want to kill him , or betray him , than he went to their biggest city Khaybar , in Arabia , and took over it , as a revenge a jewish woman gave him a poisoned food , he ate it , and later on his death bed he said he still feel the pain of it . and some muslims claim that he died because of it .

before Mohammed death , he asked muslims to Expel all jews and Christians from Arabia , his second successor Omar did it , and remove the jewish community from northern Arabia and he even asked the people of Jerusalem after taking over it to not allow the jews to live there according to (Al Tabri)
this is part of the treatment (covenant) which Omar made with the Christians after entering the city :-

Their churches shall not be occupied, demolished nor taken away wholly or in part. None of their crosses nor property shall be seized. They shall not be coerced in their religion nor shall any of them be injured. None of the Jews shall reside with them in Ilia’(Jerusalem)

However , there is important element , which is the religious one , Jews (like Christians) are under God curse , they were called by Quran and many muslims shaikhs as the brothers of the Pigs and monkyes , and Muhammed said this about them which will happen in the end of days

Sahih Bukhari Hadith Volume 4, Book 52, Number 176: Narrated by 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: Allah’s Apostle said, “You (i.e. Muslims) will fight with the Jews till some of them will hide behind stones. The stones will (betray them) saying, 'O ‘Abdullah (i.e. slave of Allah)! There is a Jew hiding behind me; so kill him.’”

Then you have the political problem of Israel and Palestine , put it with the religious text and you can see the big picture

🙂

When Jerusalem was conquered by Muslims in 637 CE, there were no Jews living in the city because they had been expelled from Jerusalem for nearly 500 years by the Romans.

It was the Caliph Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) who allowed Jews to come live and practice their religion freely in Jerusalem.

Muslims, Christians and Jews lived peacefully with each other for hundreds of years in Palestine before the start of the Crusades.

And later on until the late 19th Century, Muslims, Christians and Jews were once again living in peace alongside one another in the land but things started to change for the worse with the arrival of the Zionist Jews into Palestine who then proceeded to steal land supposedly in the name of their faith.

And so, the reason why there is so much tension between Muslims and “Jews” (Zionist Jews do NOT represent Jewry as can be seen in this video) is because of this thing called political Zionism.

Cool, so, by your logic, all “muslim” land is Christian land.

Freely…? I wasn’t aware that submission through jizya was freedom. If they didn’t pay jizya, Umar was a bad, bad muslim. In the link below, it appears he did have them pay it.

Meanwhile Umar continued the offensive against the Byzantines in Syria. The Muslims reached Damascus in 635 but were forced to withdraw to Yarmuk; there they defeated the Byzantines decisively and thus faced little resistance in occupying the remainder of Syria and Palestine. The troops then marched into northern Iraq and Armenia, and into Egypt. The Byzantines relinquished Egypt to the Muslims under a peace treaty in 641.

… Sounds like a prototype of the Antichrist. Submission is recognition of authority. Those surrendering Christians denied Christ in their actions. They might as well have taken the Mark of the Beast.…
Funny that you should mention the Antichrist and the Mark of the Beast because I do suspect that they indeed have something to do with this tension between Muslims and these “Jews” of the Zionist kind.

Have a look at this YouTube video.

I am not saying that I agree with everything that is presented in the video but I think that it is interesting information just the same.

I have NEVER gotten a straight story regarding the history of Israel from biblical times to the present without some apparent distortion from either the Jewish or Muslim perspective. It is a shame Jews and Muslims cannot live together in peace in that part of the world, since they share a common monotheistic faith, as well as religious principles and rituals, and have had periods in history–for example, The Golden Age of Spain–when they did live harmoniously, together with Christians as well. In some ways, we humans are a pitiful lot.

Jews and Muslims in the Eastern Mediterranean also lived side-by-side in relative harmony prior to post WWI British and French colonialism in the region.

The 48+ martyrs of Cordoba, Spain disagree with you.

There was a news commentator, Hughes Rudd, on the radio in the early 1970s who reported on the war that eventually separated Bangladesh from the rest of Pakistan and wondered why people who were starving were spending their resources on fighting a war, and his conclusion was, “People are just no damned good.”

well, it would be impossible for Muslims and Jews to exist peacefully unless Muslims will reject Quranic teachings about Jews being their enemies. As another poster said, so called “Golden Age” In Spain under Islamic rule is largely a myth. Jews/christians had to pay Jizya tax and were treated as second class citizens under Muslim rule
