The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, recently celebrated and Yom Kippur, considered by many, to be the “most important holiday of the Jewish year”, is this Saturday, October 8, 2011.

A very informative article by Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein can be found at this Link: International Fellowship of Christians and Jews website, titled: A Holy New Year

Happy New Year and a blessed Yom Kippur. May God bless.

Unetanah Tokef
A religious poem that is meant to strike fear in us.
myjewishlearning.com/holidays/Jewish_Holidays/Rosh_Hashanah/In_the_Community/Services/Prayers/Mahzor_Content/Unetanah_Tokef.shtml

The origin of man is dust, his end is dust. He earns his bread by exertion and is like a broken shard, like dry grass, a withered flower, like a passing shadow and a vanishing cloud, like a breeze that blows away and dust that scatters, like a dream that flies away. But You are King, God who lives for all eternity! There is no limit to Your years, no end to the length of Your days, no measure to the hosts of Your glory, no understanding the meaning of Your Name. Your Name is fitting unto You and You are fitting unto it, and our name has been called by Your Name. Act for the sake of Your Name and sanctify Your Name through those who sanctity Your Name.

Genesis 12:3
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed .

Do Jews still use the lunar calendar and monitor moon phase cycles like us in Islam?

So the difference in a luner year comes out one-day Sam?
One day for the next month only, I do not know what the total difference will be in one complete year !

This lunar calendar is not accurate at all, we in the Islamic world always make mistakes regarding it specially in Ramadan.

i wish that the Catholic church acknowledged this week of the jewish high holidays in some manner. it is a wonderful experience. i took a discovering judaism class before i converted to Catholicism and the time from Rosh Hashanah through Yom Kippur was a very spiritual time of inner reflection and a renewal. i don’t know what we would call it, but i see nothing wrong with celebrating the anniversary of God’s creation. it doesn’t hurt to reflect on our behavior the past year and make amends and promises to try to do better the next year. it has more significance to me than january 1st anyway.

“This (Crescent) Moon…” (Exod. 12 2)
“Behold it Thus and Sanctify it”
(to become Rosh Hodesh = the first day of the new month; BT, RH 20a)

This would have been a good topic to discuss - if I wasn’t so confused about it!

This is the english translation

Our Father, our King! Hear our voice:
Our Father, our King! We have sinned before You:
Our Father, our King! Have compassion for us and for our

Our Father, our King! Of pestilence, and sword, and famine

Our Father, our King! Of every oppressor and adversary rid

Our Father, our King! Our Father, our King! Inscribe us in

Mine too…she has such a beautiful voice which adds a wonderful compliment to the prayer.

Read: Hashmi’s, let me your voice based on Song of Solomon 2:14, Hashmi’ini et kolech, ki kolech arev umar’ech na’eh. … Let me hear your voice, for your voice is pleasing and your look is beautiful

and then listen to: Shlomo Carlebach – Hashmi’Ini (4:13) new.music.yahoo.com/shlomo-carlebach/tracks/hashmiini-let-me-hear-your-voice–1001052

edit if that link doesn’t work try this one: new.music.yahoo.com/shlomo-carlebach/tracks/hashmiini-let-me-hear-your-voice–1001052;_ylt=Aky9h7bbDKSWxfMFhUNU0zcOxCUv

It’s a beautiful song with many people in background clapping to his song…I love this one.
