**Pope Benedict is set to move forward the Beatification of Pope Pius XII, but the Jewish groups have warned it would permanently damage Catholic-Jewish relations.
Jesuit Father Peter Grumpel said Pope Benedict has not given the green light to proceed with the controversial beatification, a major step toward Sainthood, because he was concerned about the warnings by the World Jewish Congress, the Anti-Defamation League and other groups. After Father Grumpel spoke, the Vatican swiftly issued a statement saying that the Pope alone is in a position to determine the the progress of the cause and that any interference was “unjustified and inopportune”.
Pope Pius has been criticized by many Jews and some historians who did not speak out forcefully enough against Nazi Germany.
Even though defenders, a lot of them Jews say the Pope did everything he could by encouraging Catholic institutions to hide Jews from the Nazi’s, and that an open clash with the Germans under Adolf Hitler would have resulted in many more deaths.
This must be a time when these people (Jews) must change, the attacks stop and we make them realize that they are mistaken and that Pius XII did much for the Jews.
There are a number of miraculous healings waiting to be evaluated by medical authorities.
Pope Benedict has great admiration for Pius, he knows he saved hundreds of thousands of Jews and wants the procedure to continue.

When Pope Benedict visited Jerusalem recently, he knew there was a critical caption on a photograph of Pope Pius in the museum of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem. When the Pope visited the memorial in May, he did not enter the museum where the photograph with the “scandalous” caption is displayed. He visited the monument to the victims of the Shoah, and this was very admirable, but he wouldn’t set foot in the room with the photograph, because if he had, Catholics would never have forgiven him.

I think it’s time people realize the truth about this wonderful Pope and not listen to others who were not there and who are spreading lies about this Holy man.**

In the Eastern Catholic forum there is a a posting about the great Metropolitan Andrew Sheptitsky, complaining that he’s not listed among the “righteous Gentiles” at Yad Vashem.

What care we what Jews think about our hierarchs? Why SHOULD we care?

I’d like to know if there really is Jewish pressure. I thought the Jews considered him a righteous gentile. He wrote a directive to the German bishops telling them that churches, monasteries, convents, etc. should be used as refuges for the Jews. I think Hitler would have been impervious to any papal disapproval.

I hope he gets canonized, he was a great man who saved thousands of Jewish lives.

In all fairness, not all Jews view Pope Pius XII negatively. Rabbi David G. Dalin has written what I hear is an awesome book called The Myth of Hitler’s Pope. Unfortunately I’ve spent all my birthday money so I can’t buy it right now.

Grow a pair. Who cares what they think? The opinion of a handful or even a good number of Jews doesn’t have anything to do with what sainthood means. If Christians were supposed to be spending their time worrying about what the Jews think we wouldn’t be worshiping Christ, would we?

If the Jews who practice Judaism (to distinguish them from the Jews who have always pacticed Catholicism as well as modern converts) don’t want outside pressure when conducting their religious affairs, then they should’nt go around putting their pressure on the internal affairs of other religions.

Why is that many Catholics give bigoted anti-Catholic Jews (not all Jews are like this) a free pass but are more than ready to go debate with mormons and muslims?

Two kinds of Catholics:
1.) Jewish Catholics (native branches that have never been cut away and Chose to follow Jesus The Christ).
2.) Gentile Catholics (wild branches that have been grafted into the “True Vine”).

Two Kinds of Jewish Catholics:
1.) Descendents of the first followers of Jesus The Christ (native branches that have never been cut away).
2.) Modern converts (native branches that have been grafted back into the “True Vine”).

“Look in the mirror, and behold, the work of our Lord’s hand.”

You know, when the jews threatened to break off relations after the lifting of the excommunication on the four tridentine bishops, I could understand why they were upset. They obviously didn’t understand what excommunication is or why it was important that it be lifted, but I could see where they were coming from.

But the fact that they’re threatening to break off relations over this one? I’m sorry, but I’m getting tired of different Jewish groups trying to dictate to the church by threat of severing relationships. Last I checked, we depend on Christ, not the Jewish church for our ongoing existance. I hope Pope Benedict gives them the cold shoulder and beatifies the ever incredible Pope Pius XII, regardless of what it does to “Jewish-Catholic relations”

(of course, i realize that many sensible Jews honor Pope Pius XII for his actions and that it is a vocal minority trying to pull the reigns, but this doesn’t excuse the behaviors. Fringe groups should not be allowed to speak for the church as a whole)

Christ is about forgiveness and that is why the Pope lifted the excommunications of these bishops. People deserve a second chance. The Pope wants to bring them back into the fold and I don’t see what’s wrong with that.

Yes. I never said the pope was wrong to lift the excommunications. What I stated was that because the nature of excommunication was misunderstood that I could understand why certain groups were offended (through ignorance). And it wasn’t just about forgiveness, but rather that certain things have changed in the meantime as well. Excommunication is about healing those who are violating God’s will.

Yes, I agree…thanks for clearing that up.
