Happy Easter!

I’m wondering, are there any books or articles that demonstrate the Jewish context of Catholic beliefs and practices? I already have Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist, but I’m wondering if there are any other resources available on Catholicism in general.

The Catholic Education Resource Center has an excellent article by Martin K Barrack entitled Our Jewish Heritage.

May God richly bless your exploration!

Yes, there is a great amont of material. As Jesus proclaimed:

John 4:22-23
2 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.

This is why it is essential to understand God’s relationship with His Chosen People so that we can properly understand Jesus role to the Jewish nation.

Scott Hahn has a wealth of material on this that helps clarify how the Eucharist is embedded in the Jewish faith.

Jeff Cavins is also wonderful in connecting the Jewish roots to Christianity.

This article explores the Jewish roots of relics and communion of saints…calledtocommunion.com/2012/08/relics-saints-and-the-assumption-of-mary/

There is a book in the article that is recommended…I* had read Augustine’s Confessions with their favorable mention of the practice. I knew something about the cult of martyrs in the Church. But, I dismissed these as as sort of periphery to the “real heart” of Christianity: grace and justification. I benignly tolerated Augustine’s belief in relics the way I tolerated his Neo-Platonism: an unfortunate hold-over from his pagan environment. The first real blow to this interpretation came when I read Peter Brown’s book, The Cult of Saints: Its Rise and Function in Latin Christianity.*

There is a book by Marty Barach titled Second Exodux about the Jewish origins of The Catholic Church. He also has a web site: secondexodus.com/html/basics/jewishorigins.htm
