To the first century Pharisee and Sadduccee Jews who were now under the Roman authority, looked for a powerful Secular Messiah who would remove the political powers of the Roman Empire, so that they can regain power over the people.
The impoverished first century Jews were looking for a Messiah to save them from the heavy burden of the Law enforced by the High Priest, looked to a Messiah to feed their hunger and thirst and to be delivered from the evil powers and principalities that haunted them day and night.
Neither Jew got their secular powers nor got their bellies full as many of the false Messiahs before Jesus time had promised them.
Jesus gives them heavenly bread, drink that they will never thirst again and an eternal Kingdom that can never be conquered or end, where Jesus as eternal High Priest and King promises them eternal life into God’s Kingdom.
No, the first century Jews did not get their appetite of the flesh fulfilled. But for those Jews whom called God and saved them from the Law, received an eternal High King Priesthood which they participate in the promise of eternal life.
Jesus came to deliver them all from their sins.
The Kingly High Priest Messiah is the Son of Man, Jesus Christ when death could not conquer Jesus.
The Promised Messiah lives for ever. This we know, because we proclaim Jesus Christ Crucified, Raised from the Dead, who Lives and Reigns for ever and ever Amen.
All the secular Messiah’s the Jews hoped for have all died and when one shows up in time, this one will surely die and return to dust.
There is only one Messiah who lives for ever and has fulfilled the Law and Prophets, He is Jesus of Nazareth, as factual historical figure Pontius Pilate wrote, on a signage for the Crucified Christ =Messiah, King of the Jews.
Peace be with you
