I don’t know whether I am posting in the right place, this is more of a history question but it still relates to the church.
I was told that Jews had it better than ever under Islamic rule in Spain than they did in any Christian kingdom. Is this true? I find this hard to believe since the church condemned antisemitism and persecution of Jews and Islamic states require Christians and Jews to pay the jizya or tax.
Where Christians also treated well under Islamic rule or in Islamic countries?
I also know that Poland was called the ‘Jewish Paradise’ or Paradisus Iudaeorum and that is where alot of Jews escaped to from persecution in other parts of Europe. I’m sure they would have had it better in a ‘Jewish Paradise’ than in Islamic Spain, right? Why else would they call it that?
