Muhammad did not attack Medina–he was welcomed there. I think you are thinking of his attack on a Jewish tribe in/near Medina. His capture of Mecca was marked by mercy and tolerance according to all the accounts I have heard.

There are plenty of counts on which Muhammad can be accused of violence, so you need to make your accusations accurately. Loose and imprecise statements like this don’t advance the discussion.

He made a deal for their (Jews) protection and then he broke those promises an rid Medina to those who assisted him. Mohamed is faithless to his word.
He made and then broke the Charter.

The Banu Qurayza experienced his disloyalty and treachery first hand.

Sad came, riding a donkey and when he came near, Allah’s Apostle said (to the Ansar), “Stand up for your leader.” Then Sad came and sat beside Allah’s Apostle who said to him. “These people are ready to accept your judgment.” Sad said, “I give the judgment that their warriors should be killed and their children and women should be taken as prisoners.” The Prophet then remarked, “O Sad! You have judged amongst them with (or similar to) the judgment of the King Allah.”

Mohamed had a 10 year treaty with Mecca but broke that after two years. The people of Mecca gave up because they were afraid of Mohamed being people of commerce not war.

Tabari VIII:178 / Ishaq p. 550: When the Messenger entered Mecca he ordered that the following men should be killed even if they were under the Ka’aba. First among them was Abdallah bin Sa’d. The reason that Allah’s Messenger ordered that he should be slain was because he had become a Muslim and used to write down Qur’an Revelation. Then he apostatized, reverted to being a polytheist, and returned to Mecca.”

Also among them was al-Huwayrith b. Nuqaydh b. Wahb b. Abd b. Qusayy. He was one of the men who used to molest the messenger of Allah in Mecca.

Exactly, there’s a whole process for dealign with apostates. You’re supposed to give the person three chances of returning to Islam, and then you can kill them.

Somre relatively liberal Islamic nations, such as Morocco,* have had laws to persecute apostates up to quite recently.
