JINN in the Quran

Jinn is in the Quran. They are demonic spirits of some sort . It is to my understanding that Muhammad took them from an Arab pagan religion or religions . I would like to know which ones . If any of you have the answer please fee free to comment . Thank you , Frankie

I would think that they came from some desert form of paganism (don’t know if there really was a specific one) where they were like the dessert fire spirits. I can’t remember if they were the demons of Islam or if there were a seperate group that were demons.

Quran does not mention any such demonic spirits called “gin”; with reference to Solomon; Quran mentions of foreign architects en-gin-eers; who came to Jerusalem to help build memoirs or buildings:

[34:13] And to Solomon We subjected the wind; its morning course was a month’s journey, and its evening course was a month’s journey too. And We caused a fount of molten copper to flow for him. And of the Jinn were some who worked under him, by the command of his Lord. And We had told them that if any of them turned away from Our command, We would make him taste the punishment of burning fire.

[34:14] They made for him what he desired; palaces and statues, and basins like reservoirs, and large cooking vessels fixed in their places: ‘Work ye, O House of David gratefully;’ but few of My servants are grateful.

I would have to strongly disagree with you sir /mam. There is a sura entitled Al-Jinn . And it is to my understanding that the concept of Jinn was taken from ARAB pagan religions .
JINN is mentioned in multiple places in the Quran . AZ-Zariyat 56 along with others mentions them as well .

I had this same discussion on line, this might be dating back awhile, so I will give you some of the information:

Iblis is a Jinn. It may be that Iblis is a two-fold entity whose materialistic side is Satan and the morally evil side is Iblis. Iblis was punished for what came out of his mouth and not because he did not pay heed. For example, if God commanded you to do something but you weren’t paying attention to God, you would have grounds to hide your intentional disobedience because God is fully aware of every living thing only on Judgment Day (Yawmid Deen).

He went against Allah (subhanna wa ta’ala)'s spirit of the Hereafter (i.e. Gabriel). Allah (swt) can make better existences than His creatures can dream or imagine. Iblis thought and intentioned otherwise. Hence, in a sense, Iblis is the spirit that antagonizes the “good against evil” dilemma. This “good and evil” in Allah’s (swt) purpose of Good is for the grace of His creation . But for Iblis, it is for creation’s deception as to God’s wisdom and grace.

Grace is forgiveness if you forgive those who offend you. Wisdom is knowing good or bad is from Allah in order to test you and purify you.

In the same Surah, its suppose to be the angel Gabriel speaking, saying “we commanded the angels”, so then there is a division of angels that are one with Allah, and another that have some sort of free will?

Answer: Angels don’t have free will. Some angels might know things before others. Archangels are the one’s nearest to Allah (swt)

Frankie, the remarks on this subject were written by a very good friend of mine - and he has been patient (edit) with me and my questions on another board. So I hope this information helps you out. Also, I had another discussion, totally different board, with a Rabbi from Yemen about the same subject - only I can’t locate the information, since it dates back to 1997. The information is “almost” about the same, however - Angels, however powerful they may be, are still the messengers of God. They are used as mediums between God and us. They protect individuals and nations, and carry out God’s will no matter what that may be. There are avenging angels, militant angels, evil angels, archangels… the list goes on and on, but the point is that all angels, no matter what they are or what they do, follow the command of God.

So I know, and not guess, that all creation is under God’s command - remember God created man in his own likeness and image but still man is subjected to judgment - so are angels, whether they are good or bad (evil). I have to read from scripture this verse, Isaiah 55:11 “So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” So all creation is subject to the will of God, nothing goes unnoticed. I hope and pray that this brings you peace
