Yep, you read that right. 😦 I hoped and prayed I wouldn’t have to worry about job hunting for a LONG time when I got my CNA job, but circumstances beyond my control are saying otherwise. Things at work are horrible. I work in a nursing home and the rules are constantly changing from day to day. I never know what to expect when I walk in in the morning. I’m constantly under stress from management giving me grief about not getting finished ā€œon-time.ā€ They say I have complaints from residents, families, and co-workers though none of them have been voiced to me and I’ve never received anything in writing. When I ask what these complaints are, I never get a straight answer. I got pulled into my supervisor’s office this past week and was told (for the 2nd time in 4 months) that I should probably think about doing something besides CNA work because they don’t think it’s the best line of work for me. It’s the 4th month that I’ve ever worked as a CNA! I’m not going to learn everything all at once! I’m doing the best that I can, and it’s not good enough for them. 🤷

Since then, I’ve been job searching. I’ve not been told blatantly, but I know my job is on the line and I’d rather leave by my own volition than be fired. Please pray for me to find a job fast so that I can give my 2 weeks and be done with this place. Once I leave, I don’t intend to return…

*God, our Father,
I turn to You seeking Your Divine help and guidance
as I look for suitable employment.
I need Your wisdom to guide my footsteps along the right path,
and to lead me to find the proper things to say
and do in this quest.
I wish to use the gifts and talents You have given me,
but I need the opportunity to do so with gainful employment.
Do not abandon me, dear Father, in this search,
but rather grant me this favor I seek
so that I may return to You with praise and thanksgiving
for your gracious assistance.
Grant this through Christ, our Lord.

Amen.

Blessed Anthony, Our intercessor in times of need,
you gave yourself as a tireless worker in the
vineyard of the Lord. By our labor we produce the
things needed for human life. So our work is honorable
and holy and makes perfect the work of God’s creation.
Pray that those who seek work may find work which
enhances human dignity, draws us closer to
God, and makes our life, as was yours, a real
service to our fellow man.
Provide for those in need of assistance while
in this trial of unemployment. We need your help,
blessed friend. Come to our aid.

Hail Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou among women, and blessed is
the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary,
Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at
the hour of our death. Amen.

Some nursing homes are almost impossible to work in, the staff-patient ratios are close to insane. Chances are it’s nothing you did, it’s just that you are expected to do more with less, and in less time.

What’s your patient assignment like? I’d bet they are giving you ratios like 10-1 or some mess. Personally I think it’s all kinds of wrong, (Our LTACH does this to the CNA’s…and we (respiratory therapists) have ratios of about 12-14 to 1 on the med floor…depending. -mind, in the ICU it’s about 5-9 to 1…b/c of the acuity of care.)

Sad to say, the job market is pretty slow at the moment, but you might want to look around at the nursing homes that have a VERY good rep. The reason they have a good rep is b/c they have the staffing they need to give good care. Drawback is…well, since it’s a good place, they aren’t going to have many openings.

Another thought…how about home health? Mind, you have to have a car, etc. I did that PT when I was in RT school, and I liked it.

Look at the hospitals, too. Some hospitals don’t work you to death, some…like our LTACH…well, they do.

Being a CNA is hard work…it’s not a cakewalk, and doing it myself, I’ve been there, and I feel you.
I do hope you find a better job VERY soon…good luck to you.
;0)

I’m in a similar situation; I will pray for you!

Peace,
Francesca

The ratio for residents to CNAs is INSANE! It’s 12 residents to 1 CNA (as long as we have 6 CNAs; sometimes people call out). Shift starts at 6:45am, and you have from then to 7:45am (breakfast time), and then about 9am to 10am to get the residents up! Only 2 hours, which is ridiculous considering that they want you to spend no more than 15 minutes with each resident. I’ve never been able to get out of a room that quick. I have one resident that takes about 35 minutes because she wants everything in a particular manner and won’t let you alone until you do it. And what am I going to say? No? These people live there and they are paying for your work. It drives me batty.

The thing that is really upsetting is that this IS one of the good places. We had our state review and only got 2 tags. It’s considered a 4 out of 5 star residential facility. But their turnover for employment is high because the rules are so stringent. In the past 4 months, 3 people on my hall alone left without giving notice. The other halls are just as bad if not worse. They have orientation for new employees every Tuesday. 🤷

I’ve been looking at the hospitals around here. There are some openings and I have put in my application already. I am planning to visit 2 nursing homes tomorrow to personally hand in my resume and fill out an application. I’ve thought about Home Health Care, but I need insurance and almost all the places here are contract PT only. I’ll still be looking.

Thank you all for your prayers. 😊

Guys, I’m really desperate for prayers. There are a few openings I have found today, but because the job market is really terrible, I’m concerned. I’m doing all I can to get a new job soon. I’m desperate. I don’t know how long this current job is going to hold out because my employers are watching me. One little mistake could cost me and I could end up being fired. That’s the last thing I want. 😦

God, my Father, please be with me and guide me during my search!

I’m sorry you’re going through all of this…I had a similar situation at my former workplace as well…Overworked, unappreciated, underpaid, etc.

Have you confronted these people (that seem to be complaining)?

When people stress you out that doesn’t give you much incentive to work there.

I’m not too sure how things work in America but if you’re being bullied or abused at work wouldn’t you be able to take this to the Labor Board?

Before you call it quits there. Write down all the reasons why you should leave (of course you don’t have to share it on CAF), look back on your reasons are they logical? Can they be worked out by your employer, staff members, etc.?

DaughterofMary6- I know you’re under A LOT of stress but perhaps Our Lord is calling you to something ā€œmoreā€ in your life. His plans are far greater than our own.

Prayer to St. Joseph for the Unemployed

O Saint Joseph, we pray to you for those who are out of work, for those who want to earn their living or support their families.

You who are the patron of workers; grant that unemployment may vanish from our ranks; that all those who are ready to work may put their strength and abilities in serving their fellowmen and earn a just salary.

You are the patron of families; do not let those who have children to support and raise lack the necessary means. Have pity on our brothers and sisters held down in unemployment and poverty because of sickness or social disorders. Help our political leaders and captains of industry find new and just solutions. May each and every one have the joy of contributing, according to his abilities, to the common prosperity by an honorable livelihood. Grant that we may all share together in the abundant goods God has given us and that we may help underprivileged countries. Amen.

Asking for the intercession of St. Cajetan, St Joseph, St Lydwine of Schiedham, Servant of God Fr. Nelson Baker and the Infant of Prague on your behalf, whether able to post or not…

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, on earth as it as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day, our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive
those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil.
Amen

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee.
Blessed art Thou among women,and
blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us now, and
at the hour of our death.
Amen

Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, as is and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell,
lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of Your Mercy.
Amen

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins,
my Mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen. :crossrc:
