Hello my Catholic brothers and sisters. I am brand new to the forum, but a lifetime Catholic. I am having what I can realistically call a rich man’s problem. I can go into the details later, but I’ll keep it short for now.

Two years ago I quit a job in the federal government to take a job in the private security sector due to the government job dominating my family and spiritual life. Two months ago I was “forced to resign.” This was a blessing in multiple ways and I am glad it happened. I am more involoved with the Church, my prayer life is great, my wife has a job she loves, my honey-do list has been eliminated, wonderful times with my kids ( one of my favorites is watching The Blues Brothers with my 7 year old on her birthday and having an impromptu sing along with her to Everybody Needs Somebody) all around good times. However, this leaves me without a job. Two months of searching, interviewing, etc. Numerous novenas, rosarys, candles, etc. and I am at almost nothing with a job.

I say almost because of two distinct occurrences:
  1. My four year old daughter asks for a certain song to be played on the radio so I oblige by putting the correct CD in. The first song ques up and I happen to like that song so I let it play. After a minute she speaks up and nicely says “I wanted Cherry Bomb!” I bark at her to be patient I want to listen to my song first “your dad will take care of you.” Immediatley, I realise the very clear allegory this is to asking God for something and I apologize to my daughter for being short with her and marvel at how messages can be conveyed.
  2. On a day I am feeling particularly nutty my wife tolde to go to daily mass. I am a big advocate of daily mass and greatly prefer it Sunday mass, but I dont go all the time with any regularity. Anyway, the first reading that day was from Tobit and is when things are at their worst, Tobit is about to kill himself. The homily was about being patient and waiting for what God has coming for you.
So, I have been told to be patient by God on two separate occasions as near as can figure and Im feeling a bit impatient. I need some advice or Chicken soup for the soul guys. Today my worry is keeping the kids in Catholic school with only a month and a half until school starts now.Like I said rich man problems. All are healthy and happy. I know there are worse problems, but this is my problem and it drives me nuts. Thank you all.

Of course, you should pursue obtaining employment with considerable energy, as in all probability that is what your family needs. The call to patience is not about lessening the intensity of the search, but rather coping with the set-backs.
