I hope this is the right forum. My job has above average compensation, but is otherwise a dead end job with extreme physical demands . I am not sure what to do next.

I agree this sounds like a good plan. Extreme physical demands on your body can take its toll on you especially over time with muscle, joint, and back issues etc.Apply for other jobs?
Sounds like a plan…
There’s a few things you can do if you want to move on from your current position. If your employer offers ongoing education, take advantage of it. If not, you may want to look into adult education programs offered by local institution be it colleges or vocational schools. You may qualify for student loans if finances are an obstacle.I hope this is the right forum. My job has above average compensation, but is otherwise a dead end job with extreme physical demands . I’ll take a guess and say your a construction worker.I hope this is the right forum. My job has above average compensation, but is otherwise a dead end job with extreme physical demands . I am not sure what to do next.
I am also a union tradesman.I’ll take a guess and say your a construction worker.
I say that because I’m a longtime construction worker who might have described the job the same way at one time. And the construction field does offer better wages than any other blue collar job I know.
I’m a union tradesman, and I am glad I stuck with the industry. While it certainly can be a tough job, I have made a lot of money, I have good benefits, with a good retirement plan, and I have had the pleasure of working on some big, important jobs. In spite of this, I have felt the way you have at times, because it is not easy always having to be ready for the demands and challenges.
So really, only you can say what is important in your life. Is money important or is job satisfaction more important? Will you be able to keep up physically? Will you be miserable doing this job? Do you mind not advancing?
I am now happily closing in on retirement, and I have few regrets. It was an honest, good living that provided for my family and for me, that’s what it’s all about…
