I’m having trouble quoting and editing quotes, but you paras 1-5 are spot on. Sadly, immigration debate seems to have been hijacked into an “all or none” discussion, with no middle ground.

This entire discussion is completely inappropriate. The ONLY people who have anything to do with this are Mr. Biden, the priest, and Jesus.

I do not know why this priest decided he knew enough to know the man, or what he considers mortal sin, but I would like to note a couple of points. The man has a 34% approval rating from NARAL, the lowest of any Democrat I have seen, though I know some must be lower. His last public action on abortion I can remember was supporting the Hyde Amendment, for which NARAL condemned him. He is not exactly the pro-abortionist he is being made our to be.
Biden is not the most objectionable of the Democratic presidential candidates — that would probably be Beto O’Rourke, who is not going to get the nomination, or Pete Buttigieg, who, while fairly mainstream as Democrats go (and he is very intelligent and articulate), lives in an openly and proudly same-sex sodomitical relationship (one of the four sins that cry to heaven for vengeance) and would be carrying on this relationship in the White House. (This is not to say that unseemly shenanigans haven’t taken place in the White House before, >cough cough< ) Biden has some fairly shallow pro-life credentials, more in the past than nowadays. He could be worse than he is.

Just to play the devil’s advocate here, perhaps Biden, in good conscience, could claim that he does all he can, as a Democrat, to mitigate the evil of abortion, that his party makes it impossible for him to do more, and that he cannot in good conscience leave his party, lest the nomination be handed to someone else. He has consistently supported the Hyde Amendment up until now, and has only caved recently under electoral pressure, not because it reflects his convictions. He has made clear that he personally opposes abortion. Biden would be absolutely entitled to hire a canon lawyer and assert that Canon 915 is being unjustly invoked against him, appealing all the way to Rome if need be.

What I’m wondering is, how did the priest know whether or not Mr. Biden had just gone to confession, and repented for his sin including the one in question?

Assuming Vice President Biden repented, it would be a joyous day for all members in the Mystical body of Christ, and we must pray that he did so. Because he has taken a stance on abortion publicly, he also needs to take a stance against abortion publicly.

Look at the case of Norma McCorvey (Jane Roe) of the famous Roe vs. Wade, who has since passed away receiving her eternal reward. She was instrumental in bringing about Roe vs. Wade to fruition, and upon conversion to the Catholic faith fought hard to end Roe vs. Wade publicly.

Public scandal requires public amends. He would have to publicly recant and renounce those positions.

This addition to Cannon 915 includes much commentary by Cardinals and others.
A few things are certain. You begin with the strong assumption of the availability of communion to all Catholics. The assumptions ," avoid "weaponizing of the real presence or retributive sanction.
The process is definitely supposed to include ones own pastor. And the CONFERENCE of Catholic Bishops would add, Bishop.
There is supposed to be juridical discussion first.
This was out of order.

What I mean is what happened is exactly what the Church identified as a danger presented when this addition to Cannon 915 was published.
The procedures layed out by Pope Benedict and others was not followed. The danger identified by clergy, not me, happened.
Which gets me to the consequence. What goes unsaid in your very cogent reasoned argument is a political reality. It is a clear endorsement of one one political party over one issue.
When you make the sin giving people with free will choice, when the politician is personally opposed, the sin is more symbolic than actual or direct. Symbolic, while also engaging fully in the political process.

If you read Cardinal Burke and Pope Benedict, they determine this addition to Cannon 915 is to be carried out by ones Pastor. The Conference of Catholic Bishops adds Bishop involvement.
This step was interval for reasons. One identified reason was the tendency of highly polarized political races and emotions infiltrating the process.
I think intentional or not, what has happened confirms the concerns and failure to follow the procedures.
It isn’t enough to argue," we can skip this step applying that reason." It is undisciplined application of discipline

He would have to publicly recant and renounce those positions.
Where did you get this requirement for restoration to communion, currently, not from the Middle Ages?

This would even assume scandal, not a decision made by a single priest.

You don’t have to agree. I am just saying that Jack Kennedy was beloved by the Catholic Church, especially by the Boston clergy.

not a decision made by a single priest.
The denial of communion to Biden was due to diocesan policy, as shown by the article above.
As such, it wasn’t “a decision made by a single priest”.

In order to qualify for communion, Biden would have to show that he no longer fell under the policy. I’m not sure how he could do that without a public statement or public course of action such as voting record.

As the policy did not name him, there was most definitely a decision. The decision was that he fell under the policy as a consistent supporter of enabling abortion. His own party has condemned his inconsistency in the matter though, as have pro-abortion advocates.

Also, there is nothing in the article about public penance.

I believe Joe Biden to be a decent man. He has had a tough life. He lost his first wife and his daughter to a car accident. His son died from cancer. He has suffered much in his life, but has persevered.
Biden’s stand on abortion has to do with an oath to serve all the people, not just those who are for or against abortion.
He and others will be judged by God.
May God be merciful to all of us sinners.

I just hope the priest’s decision didn’t have negative unintended consequences. I know there are times I really need the grace of God in my life.
