(RNS) Featured on the February cover of Success magazine, Houston megachurch pastor and best-selling author Joel Osteen says he doesn’t hear the critics of his “prosperity gospel” who say he causes people to focus on themselves instead of God.
“It seems like I’m naive, but everybody I talk to, they’re saying, ‘You helped me, I like listening to you,’” he told Success. “And the stadiums full of people? They’re not coming because they’re critics. They’re coming because you touched their life.”
Osteen tells writer Michael Mooney, in the article that calls him “the most popular minister on the planet,” that precision is one of the keys to his success.

Pope Francis has nice things to say about him so credit to Joel. That said I look forward to the day JO crosses the Tiber.

There were a couple of threads on Joel Osteen here. I think he is a very gifted person especially in preaching. I love his show. He focused on the Bible and inspired to live by it in faith. That takes courage, rightly or wrongly.

Wonder how it would be if he is Catholic and preaches on Catholic doctrines.

I spoke with a priest friend about him and from his comment, he is not well liked by Catholic clergies, if my priest friend’s comment is any indication.

Most popular minister on the planet… I doubt it… however, he is a success… if one defines that as a rich entrepreneur and business leader. His business being self marketing, promotion and book sales

Who cares what a magazine says?

How does God define “success”?

He’s a glorified Amway salesman but instead of soap and juice, he peddles Jesus as a big ATM machine. A heretic, a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
