Joel Osteen?

My biggest problem with Osteen is simply he doesn’t preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He rarely mentions Him…and rarely preaches specific scripture.
He is just a motivational speaker. The problem is that he identifies himself as a minister of a Christian Church. This is problematic when even he doesn’t seem to believe that no one comes to the Father except through Jesus. 🤷

On a side note…he’s never been to any form of seminary. For me…that’s an issue as well.

His ministry travels around to huge arenas and stadiums to preach. They don’t just stay in one area. I doubt they ever do communion…based on both a theological standpoint and a logistical standpoint.
He is pastor of a large non- denominal community in Texas which meets in a former arena. They do serve communion in the form of wafers and little shot-glasses of grape juice passed out by ushers. Like most evangelical ministries, communion is not served more than once a month and it is not a sacrament but just a symbolic ordinance. Most likely there is a staff of associate pastors for a group that large. I know this because I used to attend a non- denom similar to this.

The guy has been asked that question on Larry King and Piers Morgan. He’s been wishy washy on different interviews (some of his interviews saying it’s ok and others saying it’s not ok). He gave his cheesy smile, 😃 , and said that he didn’t want to divide God’s people and that he’s here to give a positive message. In other words, Osteen wants your money and could care less about your eternal soul. A good, true shepherd would be telling people the truth of God’s word and to repent of their sins.

You can view these interviews on youtube.

I saw him on a public tv interview, and he said that he does not take any money from this program. He said he earns his money from the books he sells.

Of course some may say that the money from the books is based on his popularity from the program.

Just a thought.

Similar to celebrity chef Paula Deen, who probably sold lots of books based on her popularity on the Food Channel.

Well, in my opinion not going to seminary does not automatically mean that someone doesn’t know what they are talking about. If I remember right, Charles Spurgeon never went to seminary. It is admitted however, that Spurgeon wasn’t necessarily your average joe and was very intelligent.

Olsteen did “on the job training” taking over his father’s base of customers.

Wait. There are more of them?!?:bigyikes::bigyikes::bigyikes:
A week before his father died it is said Joel Osteen first stepped out from the TV production side of a rather large Lakewood Church and gave his first sermon. After the passing of his father Lakewood church kept him as senior pastor and a rather large church grew into one of the largest in North America.

As much as I think that Joel Osteen is not a preacher, from what I have read he takes no money from his church. He makes a living from his books not from the collections. Which is really different from most of the tv evangelists out there. What happens to the money collected at Lakewood, I have no idea.

He makes millions bottom line. His tv show is his marketing.

How much is Joel Osteen worth?

Joel Osteen was born in Texas and has an estimated net worth of $40 million dollars. A pastor, author, and televangelist, Joel Osteen is the pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas. He took over his father’s role as a pastor and televangelist, despite having very little formal religious training, in 1999. Since then, the Lakewood Church broadcast has grown exponentially and can be seen in 100 different countries.

All we can do is pray that God may have mercy on this Joel Osteen and others like him.

How much research have any of us put into this?

Or are we just parotting what we assume is the most PC answer?

If I am not mistaken, JO just recently said he is getting out of the evangelical business?

How in the world can he be worth 40,000,000 dollars? Phew…That’s all donation money?

As I understand it the church draws about 43, 500 people per weekend and about $40 million in tithes with another $36 million in donations from TV viewers. The Osteen’s no longer take a salary from Lakewood but live off of the sales of his books.

How close are his teaching to what the Catholic Church teaches e.g. the 7 Sacraments, the Eucharist etc. etc…?
