Joel Osteen is a great motivational speaker, but he you will never hear him speak of the cross. People today want to feel good, believe me so do I, but the reality of everyday life is that it can be very hard. All of us are sinners and we need at times to be reminded of our sinful ways. Jesus is the only answer for the problems we encounter in everyday life and the only remedy for our sin. Wouldn’t it be nice to see our catholic churches filled to capacity like Mr. Osteen’s arena, but the truth of life is larger than fictional motivation. He serves a
good purpose for some but no for me.
 
“You know, I grew up in church and it seem like most of the people that I know, they already knew what they were doing wrong. And to come to church and beat them down, and make them feel like they’re just the worst sinner, I have a different approach,” Osteen said."(quote from article, cant figure out how to make it a "High lighted one though)

A sin, committed long enough with NO correction, fails to become a sin any longer. It becomes a “Life Style”.

Yes, we need to have the Good News preached to us of a Loving and Forgiving God, but we must never forget that God hates sin and He will judge us accordingly.

Jesus taught that Hell truly exists and unrepentant sinners just very well might end up there, how will anyone know this if todays tele-mega preachers don’t also teach this very same message?
 
Motivational speaker with a Christian twist.
Osteen may make you feel good but how will “feeling good about yourself” get you to heaven?
 
I’ve listened to several of his sermons on TV. Can’t stand him. There’s no meat to him. He’s just a pretty face with a let’s all feel good message. I think his daddy was a better preacher, and that is what built up that church, but unless the kid puts some meat on the bones, that church is going to start shrinking. Most Protestants won’t abide a wishy washy preacher. They don’t have the Eucharist, so the preaching is the only real feeding they get at church.
 
It amazes me that Osteen’s church is now located where we used to go see the Rockets play when we lived in Houston.
 
I’ve watched him a couple of times. He sort of reminded me more of a motivational speaker than of a preacher. I think he “tickles the ears” of his congregation and it seems he tells them what they want to hear.

Nothing new in Joel Osteen’s approach at all. As long as he gets all the money he can for himself then all is good.
 
Can you really call his - well, whatever it is - a church?

didn’t he “cancel” Christmas services there last year so everybody could “spend Christmas at home”??

he’s just another televangelist nutjob they all just need to go off somewhere and stop poisoning peoples minds and taking their money in the name of God but their day is coming…
 
Wow, you guys are being very judgemental.😦 None of us know what is in his heart.

I believe he is a Godly man and he chose to go the route he did. I dont agree with the health and wealth message but i dont dislike him or think he is evil or just wants money at all.

Maybe this is how God is using him to get people in a church(not necessarily his) and then they will hear the meatier part of the gospel message.👍

Please let us try to remember not to judge a book by its cover.😉
 
My favorite part of his sermon is at the very end when he contradicts himself all the time. He’s says he’s not asking you to join a church, but to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. Then he says to join a bible-based church…cracks me up
 
i used to watch Joel Osteen when i first reverted back to the Faith.
he was good for motivating me and making me feel like “i could do it” and was great for reminding me of God’s action in my life, the need to improve myself too.
but as I heard it described, his (and not just his, but other’s like him) theology is a mile wide and an inch deep. it reaches to the masses who have no clue about Christ.
but, i have not listened to him in a long time. so i do not know what it is like now. health and wellness gospel is not The Gospel, and so i liken teachers of similar mind more as a false prophet than i do from God. even a false prophet can feel they are from God, and many times will preach much truth.
but the devil will spit 99% truth if only to pull you into hell with the 1%.
all in all though, I’m sure he’s a fine Christian man. but I hope our Lord brings him into the Church so as to be a strong witness to all his devotees.
 
Then there’s the “Creed according to Osteen”…I am what ever the Bible says I am…insert other Generic feel good phrase here.

And, you are right…we are being judgemental…It’s not a matter of being grateful he’s bringing people into a church… The fact is that the message he spreads is dangerous in that feel good religion is like a Snickers bar…empty calories.
 
ALLFORHIM: No amount of good intentions can make up for false doctrine and he promulgates the heresy that is the Health and Wealth “Gospel” that makes him the enemy.

Yes, you can call it a “church” but it’s not part of the Church.

If he canceled the Christmas services in 2006 because Christmas was on Sunday, that is very sad indeed. But once again his “church” is not part of the Church of Jesus Christ (although there may be many true Christians in his church), so his fruits are showing him to be what he truly is as a pastor. A false teacher!

I’m not judging him by his cover, but by his fruits.
 
Don’t think I’ve ever seen or heard this person, but it sounds like what an old Negro (he called himself a Negro) Protestant minister labeled the “pie in the sky before you die gospel.”
 
I heard this story second hand, and I never confirmed it with the girl that was involved, so take it for what it’s worth, keeping that in mind. I don’t want to break the 8th Commandment.

But a friend of mine told me a story about a MUTUAL friend of ours (so this is not a “friend of a friend” type story) how, when she was working at a resturant in Houston (I’m originally from Houston), Osteen came to the resturant and parked in a handicapped spot. She asked him to move, but he refused to because he had “favor with the Lord.” She had been invited to go with a friend to Lakewood Church (Osteen’s Church) the next day. In his sermon, he apparently told a story about how God always finds him the best parking places.

Like I said, I never confirmed this with my other friend, so I don’t know how accurate the story is. But I strongly dislike him. I knew people (mostly non-Catholics) who left their home churches (where they would probably receive a better Christian message) to go to Lakewood. These mega-churches are like the Wal-marts of religion: running the local churches out of business. Furthermore, since their services are on TV, many people just stay at home and “watch” church in their pajamas.

As far as the “cancelling Christmas,” I never heard about that.
 
So Joel is really a money grubbing ogre who takes handicapped spaces from the infirm:eek:
