I am not sure were to put this, and if the mods feel it should be move I am more than happy with it.

Any ways, years ago on this forum I had asked about a fundamentalist writer named Johanna Michaelsen who seemed to be very anti-Catholic. And I was wondering how do Catholics make of stories like her- She claimed to have worked with a “psychic” healer before realizing that’s its of the devil and got saved. She tells of experiences were Jesus stopped devils from attacking her.

Now if her story is real ( I have personally lots of doubts) how do Catholics make sense of it? In light of how fundamentalists see Catholics as being “fake” Christians and all.

Also i have found information that might debunk her story does anyone know were can i take this info? If someone is for some reason want to investigate her story :shrug:She according to her ministry website is based in San Pedro, So Cal

Cloak,
We generally don’t lose a whole lot of sleep over the various a-Cs (See the link to my blog in my sig line to see my own studies and refutations of a guy named Mike Gendron.🤷 As with most of them he isn’t really very good and the only reason that anyone believes his propaganda is that they they are ignorant and believe him without ever checking to see if what he tells them is true. Needless to say they don’t generally do very well here on CAF when guys like me offer scriptures and historical facts.

I can suggest that you post your findings here and if nothing else they’ll be here to benefit all of us and if you bookmark this thread then you have a ready location for reference if you ever need it again.🙂 I’ll be interested to see what you have.👍

ok i had just organized it into easy to swallow bullet points about what I found on Michaelsen.
  1. Stanley Krippner, who was mentioned in her book BeautifulSide of Evilsaid his friend Montague Ullman had visited the same psychic and tested the blood and guts from the surgery and they were from animals. This was from a personal email I had with him. As well a Mexican skeptic, Mauricio-José Schwarz I talked with claimed even during her Hayday Pachita was accused of using animal parts for her surgeries*
2)Also the musician *Charles Mingus had visited the same psychic johanna had worked with for a cure for ALS. There was no evidence that the surgery had taken place, no marks no scratches, not one drop of blood. Also the psychic kept on prescribing quack diets and Mingus died a few months after seeing the psychic. Page 107, Better Git It in Your Soul: An Interpretive Biography of Charles Mingus, 2016, Krin Gabbard

3)Also the origin story the psychic told Johanna and the director Alejandro Jowdorosky contracts each other. One claimed shefirstdid psychic surgery when she was 10 another said she*first started when she was in her late 20s**Page 122 of Beautiful Side of Evil by Johanna Michaelsen vs The Dance of Reality: A Psychomagical Autobiography (Magic Masters Shamans) Alejandro Jodorowsky

4)Johanna claimed that there was a magic light on page 92 of her book Beautiful Side of Evil* that allowed her to see all surgeries super clearly, but other visitors claimed it was so dark they could barely see anything at all and that the only light source was of dim candles. Even quacks likeAlejandro Jowdrowskyas well as people who accompanied Andrjia Puharich, a parapsychologist that visited the samepsychicclaimed it was too dark to really see anything and that all sorts of fraud could have taken place.
  1. Her own testimony that she gives as presentations sometimes contradicts her book. For example her own book said after the psychic cured a small boy from muteness the first thing he said was her name, while in two differentinterviewsone with Stan Moneith from 2004and another with Rapture Ready Radio in 2012she said the first words the boy said was her dad’s name.
  2. This one is a little silly but I found someone online who asked Hal Lindsey who wrote the forward to her book and asked Hal about Johanna’s story and Hal was apparently very vague about it. sustainedreactiondotyukudot/topic/5840/The-Death-of-Charles-Mingus?page=1
  3. Her (step?) children seem to promote not only Yoga (she rallies against Yoga all the time) but appear to support progressive websites like Daily Kos suggesting that those with behind the scene knowledge aren’t convinced of her truth
  4. Another “scientist” Jacobo Grinberg claimed that Pachita the psychic Johanna Michalesen worked with can spawn organs for transplant OUT OF NOTHING. While Johanna claimed Pachita needed to buy them from the local morgue. Is it a power that Pachita needs to save up mana to use?
9)In the book Memories of a Maverick, the biography of Puharicha manclaimed Pachita the psychic did a BRAIN TRANSPLANT. Which basically means she brought a dead guy back to life, so what was so special about Jesus coming back from the dead then huh?
  1. She STLL promotes SRA 20 years after its been debunked, by citing favorably Gregory Reid a man that defended the claims of MikeWarnake and Laura Strafford evento this day*and as well claims to be an “expert” on the occult despite pushing lies like on the origins of Halloween, Rammerstein causing the columbine massacre etc…
  2. She claims that tumors cut out of patients smell like rotting meat, but even large cancers don’t always have a smell comparable to rotting meat. Not even if they do have extensive necrosis. And the size that a “psychic surgeon” handles is small enough to be palmed by him (this is a close up setting) is not what would be considered a large cancer which would be prone to extensive necrosis.

Eeeeek! What our Catholic faith teaches us is so beautiful. We don’t need to clutter our mnds up with all of that.

May the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!

I have no idea who this person is and I can’t say I would have any interest in knowing. She just sounds like a mess. I echo the “we don’t lose sleep over anti-Catholics”, I frankly don’t have time in my day for such people, but I’ll say a prayer for her.

well i don’t know why but this story and this one alone for some reason always bothered me. I mean parts of it involved real people but yet it was never debunked like a lot of conspiratorial stories from the 1980s

Investigations into such things need to be done by someone with professional training. Having read many, many stories like this, I know that some are investigated and some a just left alone. However, they do surface from time to time. The amount of research has either gone down for fringe subjects or people have lost interest. The internet is not helping in most cases. Anyone with an anonymous name can write anything. In the past, there were specialist writers that understood proper investigative procedure. Today, it’s hard to tell who is who in some cases.

The Church has a system for investigating miracles, and since these stories lack certain key pieces of information, I doubt anyone who understands such things would take the time. I watch the fringe material and aside from new combinations and renaming of old Occult ideas, it offers little that is actually new.

this woman was apparently quite famous in the 1990s. so it wasn’t merely a “fringe” story she probably hurt a lot of people’s lives by promoting conspiracy theories in the olden days.

I never use the term “conspiracy theory” when dealing with strange or unusual phenomena. I’ve read about similar claims. These weren’t debunked either. Most people don’t have the time or interest. Con-artists do things for money. I don’t want to give anyone ideas here but other elaborate things have been done using apparently real artifacts that borrow from stage magic tricks. To the average observer, especially one under emotional stress, the observed occurrence is assumed to be real. It is a sad fact but the ability of confidence men, or con men, to carefully craft a belief that they can do something extraordinary and devise a means to create artifacts that aren’t authentic but which appear to be authentic, in order to make some money, has a wide history. I find preying on people in this way shows a lack of empathy at best, or something bordering on being a sociopath.

In my case, the research I’ve done goes back to the 1920s for the US.

Another fraud capitalizing on the 80’s and 90’s Satanic Panic.
There was no 80’s and 90’s Satanic panic. There are Satanists out there right now. Having lived through the era, I own some well-written books with checkable information that clearly show how Christianity in America has been targeted. Names are named. Groups are named. They don’t need Satanic in the title to promote anti-Christian ideas and promote confusion among the faithful. I still watch what’s going on in this area. If anything, there is a war going on today against Church teaching.
