My non catholics friends believe that through the Holy Spirit they can go ‘directly’ to Jesus, bypassing any other means such as church. This however denies scripture where Jesus said he would build a church and found it upon the rock (Peter), and it also denies apostolic succession.

Is there 'only one ‘way to Jesus’ in the sense that Jesus is the only way to the Father?
Is it only through the church Jesus said he would build, and through apostolic succession, or does our Lord allow simple direct communication (without going through church or man made traditions) as my non catholic friends believe?

these are what I consider ways to Jesus, naturally they are all Catholic ways since this is my belief.
  1. Eucharist - the body, blood, divinity and soul of our Lord
  2. praying the Holy Rosary while available to all is usually considered Catholic
  3. petitioning Saints through prayer
  4. being Catholic and by extension belong to the Church Our Lord established, and submitting to Catholic doctrine as defined by the magisterium
  5. the sacrament of confession

I’m not Catholic so do you mean…Going right to the Lord in prayer or Trusting in Christ for salvation…The verse is Jesus is the way…There is no other name in which we can be saved…Quick example…I was living far from God in the early 70’s…A young girl at my office gave me a little booklet with verses about Jesus…It wasn’t long after I read that the Holy Spirit staed bringing me under conviction…They took me a few day later to hear and evangelist he to me more…I knelt at that altar and confessed my sinful state to the Lord
and ask Him to forgive me and take over my life…It was a powerful experience…I felt like weight was lifted from me…I went home an laid in bed not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
I felt like rivers of love…It was amazing…I was water baptised a year later and spirit baptised
a year after that…That experience set my faith on fire… I was boldy able to share the gospel message of Christ to hundreds on people over my my and my faith is still aflame…The cool this was my druggy co worker buddy had the same experience the same year…Our co workers wonder what happened to us all of sudden becoming"religious" to them…It was quite a misson field there for the 25 or so years we were there…Maybe this is what they are talking about…

It depends on what you mean… if you want to simply talk to Jesus, or receive grace from Him, it’s possible to go directly. However, we can receive MORE grace if we go through the Sacraments, Church, Mary, etc - those ways are actually not less direct, they’re just particular ways of approaching Jesus which He HImself gave to us 🙂

so here’s an analogy… if you want to get to another continent, you can either set out on a journey by foot, figuring out the way as you go along… or you could take a plane or a boat. The first way is the Protestant way. The person can still get there, but it’s not as certain, more difficult, slower, etc. The second way is when we use all that Jesus gave us to get to Him more effectively: our Blessed Mother’s intercession, the Sacraments, etc… there’s more grace in the Church than outside of it. It still reaches Protestants, of course, because they do know Jesus as well. But they don’t have access to it as much as Catholics do - which is why it’s very important for us to not neglect our faith, because to whom much is given, much is required

by the way all those ways are by the Holy Spirit also. Any way we come to God requires the Holy Spirit.

Well in a sense all Christians are going to the Father through Jesus’ Church Catholic since He did establish it, the Church that is, and the Catholic Church has left us scripture which all Christians use, plus I believe Christians unconsciously take spiritual replenishment from the Catholic Church whether intentional or not. There are evidently many non-Catholic Christians who are active members of this site, and they surely cannot help but absorb Catholic teaching through our interactions, shaping and forming them in the Faith. 👍

I go to different christian forums to pray for, encourage and learn about my brothers and sisters in various church groups…Frankly some of the stuff I read here practiced makes me wonder compared to what I’ve read practiced in the scriptures…I live in an Italian catholic area and has seen/heard things that make me scratch my head…Do you know some bury statues to get there house to sell, almost superstitious…I have sold two houses recently, one just last year…I ask the Lord to send buyers and they show up…I end up getting more than I originally wanted… I saw on the news this one town has a white water satin under a bridge that was supposed to look like Mary…The people went crazy, clogged up traffic…had flowers, candles and they were on their knees praying to a picture of Mary…It reminded me of Jesus saying about people seeing His appearance different places and warning them not to chase after it…shalom

The way to Jesus is thru Mary. She WILL ALWAYS lead us to her Son. ALWAYS. The Rosary is an excellent conduit to Jesus thru Mary.

Hi all,

Read John: I use the JB: John 6:37-39 All that the Fathers GIVES me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I shall not turn him away: because I have come from heaven, not to do my own will, but to do the will of the one who sent me. Now the will of him who sent me is that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, and I should raise it up on the last day.

So I would gather from this that it is God, himself, that leads us to Jesus. I believe that God gives Jesus to all of us and it is up to us to either accept or reject Jesus.

Just my thoughts.

God Bless Jeanne

What you are saying, essentially, Hiskid, is that you are going to Jesus **through the Catholic Church. ** For it was the CC which gave you the verses in Scripture which tell you that “Jesus is the way” or you can go “right to the Lord in prayer” or by “trusting in Christ for salvation.”

I would say the author of those verses are the Holy Spirit…And Christ in in the church catholic of all the sees combined…Like the Orthodox say they know where the church is but they don’t know where it isn’t…The church catholic assembled the canon the contents was penned via the Holy Spirit…I’m not saying we have to go through your roman catholic church to find Christ for salvation…

Come on HK , you are better than this. We already discussed on another thread that there are people of every denom. who do not know their faith. You know. the drunken Italians.

Unless an apparition is approved “worthy of belief” by the Church, it is poppycock. And even then. Catholics are not obliged to believe, but they may if they want to.

Most Catholics would agree that burying statue is superstition. The prayers of intercession to St. Joseph are not superstition.

As far as the image in a atain of water, that’s just folk’s wishful thinking. I’m really wondering about the image on a grilled cheese sandwich, though:D

Yes, but different people are in different threads and different people respond…I just see so much blasting of non catholics here…Like were somehow can’t receive all Jesus has and become spiritually mature…That one thread about why non catholics gather amazed me how some think non c’s act… I just let people know of my experiences that your camp has it’s hot and luke warm believers also…We both have issues…We worship and adore the same Jesus…He knows who love and adore Him, there not from just all the Rome see…

Well, yes, of course, Hiskid. Just like God is the ultimate Father of my children, but no one would look askance if I still claim to be their parent. And, while the Holy Spirit is the ultimate author of those verses, the CC is still the one who is the “parent” of those verses.
The church catholic assembled the canon the contents was penned via the Holy Spirit…
Yes, the Catholic Church. It had bishops, and a pope and celebrated the liturgy. This is the same Church today that has bishops, and a pope, and celebrates the liturgy.
I’m not saying we have to go through your roman catholic church to find Christ for salvation…
Indeed, you must. Outside the Catholic Church you would not be saved, for it was this CC that brought you the Word of God.

Now, as for the roman Catholic Church, you are right. You need not celebrate the liturgy and be part of the latin rite church to be saved.

Be cautious in advice from those proclaiming discernment and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Too often, our imaginations and emotions can lead to erroneous results. St. John of the Cross wrote extensively on this subject and warned the faithful to pay little attention to those supernatural communications. Instead,we are to cling to Scripture and the teachings of the Church. For those interested, Fr, Thomas Dubay’s book “Authenticity: A Biblical Theology of Discernment” is wonderful.

The church catholic was more than the Rome see…You don’t think christians from the other sees had anything to do with it…Remember the church wasn’t always in schism…What if the gospel of Christ was presented to me from an orthodox christian instead of an evangelical one…

Then you’d be celebrating the liturgy, praying to Mary and the saints, receiving Jesus Body/Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Most Holy Eucharist, right?

There is no Roman church, Hiskid. There is the One Holy Catholic Church, which has a Roman (or Latin) rite. It is one of 23 different rites in the Church founded by Christ.

Does those 23 rites include the orthodox churches…

No, they do not. But they are in union with the CC in all dogmas and doctrines save that of the primacy of the pope.
Thank you, I just wondered where you placed them…I think there is a few more differences…We’ll I’m going to rest my head and see if I last till midnight… I just had some orange mango juice it might sugar me awake…May the Lord bless you mightly in this new year closer to the Lord’s return…
