Dear AT, I understand what you’re getting at as I myself went through a similar culture shock over this past Easter only for me it was the Maronite Good Friday and the Roman Catholic Easter Vigil. I have to tell you, if your approach was simply to shock the Catholic folk, you may get mixed results. I say this because when I went to both services the readings were the same. Oh, sure the rituals, and wrappings were different as we Maronites are an Eastern Catholic church and the Romans are Western. still there are similarities. In short, To me atleast the Roman rite was designed to bring back and unite those that left, ie the protestant churches. As I grew up in a Protestant house hold, I recognized the style. However, as I’m a catachumen in the Maronite Church, progressing through RCIA. I prefer the liturgy and yes ritual of the eastern churches. I realize I take a huge risk in this, as the Pharasees also fell for the same trap in the time of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Eastern churches are not a trap per se but believing in ritual is.
