John 17: 9-10 (NAB)

Love and peace,
Jessica
Can someone explain to me what this set of verses means? It might be better to start from the beginning of the chapter, but these verses in particular struck a weird cord with me. Why is Jesus’ prayer to His Father saying that He is not praying for the world, but ONLY for “them” that were given to Him? Who is them and why not the whole world?I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for the ones you have given me, because they are yours, and everything of mine is yours and everything of yours is mine, and I have been glorified in them.
Love and peace,
Jessica
