I read this verse in mass about the cloth covering our Lords face in tomb. It said it was found rolled ,not with the burial cloth. I tried and tried to think of the significance of it because it was so noted. Thinking visually, I imagined if I was asleep with a cloth over my face and awoken that’s not how I would’ve removed it . I’m guessing in faith that God the father rolled it back by his hand or by angels in a loving gentle fatherly way. This brought the resurrection of Jesus to another divine level of in my heart. Such wondrous joy found in little scriptural facts. Happy Easter.

If you read the history of this cloth, the conclusion is consistent with the cloth having been pinned at the back of the head while the body was still on the cross. This Jewish practice is done if the face is particularly disfigured after death. There are several stains that are consistent with the loss of blood and fluid which would be present after death and with the various movements of the body as it was taken down from the cross and then moved to the burial site. The stains also match the Shroud at 70 different points. When the body was taken to the tomb, the cloth covering the face was taken off and carefully folded and put aside before wrapping the body in the burial cloth, which affirms the Scriptures.

I guess it’ll be one of many questions to be answered in eternity, but it was about His fathers love for Him and Jesus’s love for us.

To me it was just another sign of the resurrection… anyone entering the tomb and seeing this would not conclude that the body of Jesus was stolen, as robbers would not unwrap the body and fold the burial clothes. But yes, it could have deeper meaning.
