hi i was just wondering if this book -
‘Mars and Venus on a date’ by John Gray is suitable for a 19yo guy.
if anyone has read it - i was wondering whether it has any references to religion (as in Catholicism) etc. because the friend i plan to give it to is Atheist.
Also if any one has read it - i just wanted to know the sort of stuff that Gray discusses.
thanks

ps - i wanted to get him a self help book that explained the meaning of dating, courtship, sex, how far is too far type book which didn’t touch on religion but still ties in with what a catholic believes. Iv checked out all of Jason Evert’s books but somehow they all touch on religion. I think the same with Chris West. but if anyone can think of a better book - please recommend.

I recommend steering far clear of John Gray. He’s a totally unqualified personality-driven pseudoexpert who bases a theory of men and women on his own marriage to a moody woman. He assumes every man is like him – very immature in a lot of ways – and that women just have to live with that, while he assumes every woman is like his wife – sad and somewhat withdrawn and fatalistic. This is not supported by research nor is it common from what I’ve seen in the world. Worse, he advocates some coping methods that many women consider extremely cruel and disrespectful. His success came from his charismatic stage personality and powerful marketing hype, not from any kind of facts. It’s good that he’s passing out of style.
Most of the good books on relationships I’ve read are openly Christian and are specialized, not really general books for young adults.
I will add that it’s very rare for a male author to have a clue about women. You have to be careful.

I don’t like John Gray either. He doesn’t get that not all women are the same and not all men are the same.

Jason Evert and Christopher West are much better in my opinion!

oh, wow…
i got recommended this book…so i thought it would be ideal for a friend…
so doesnt he use stats etc to back up his theories like JE or CW??
mmm…i dunno, i thought it would have been good because doesnt he have a ph.d on sumthing to do with what he writes about…

His PhD is not real, it’s from an uncredited “college” I had bought one of his books years ago, then googled him, and found all this stuff out about him. I don’t have the links, but try googling him.
