I heard Lucy in the Sky with Diamands was indeed about drugs, LSD. Perhaps my source was wrong, but the initials certainly would be a strange coincidence.
There are many huge books on the Beatles, but I think this was in a magazine or liner notes.Really? I’d love to read about that and the origins of other songs. Do you have a source (I believe you by the way, this is not one of those posts that want you to prove it). My husband would like a book like that too.
A child that Julian lennon knew in school was named Lucy, and he drew her floating in the sky wearing diamonds, and don’t quote me on this but I beleive Paul suggested a song.I heard Lucy in the Sky with Diamands was indeed about drugs, LSD. I hope you’re not driving a vehicle or operating any heavy equipment in that condition.:banghead:John was the most talented and revolutionary song writer and musician in the Beatles. Paul will always be John’s very talented sidekick.
Sorry, John did more than Paul did. Paul was a very very very cose second. John’s beleifs do not color my opinion of the man’s talents in any way. And thank you for the personal insult. Should I report that?I hope you’re not driving a vehicle or operating any heavy equipment in that condition.:banghead:
It’s true the Beatles dabbled in the eastern religion with George leading the way. As I recall, George was fascinated with the eastern instruments in particular the sitar which he became very proficient at. As for your sentiment about John, Oko and that whole post-Beatles scene I couldn’t agree with you more.No one mentioned when he (and other Beatles) went to India and studied(?) under the Rajeesh (ok, so I’ve got the name wrong). Seems to me he/they were into the whole eastern religion thing. Also, my husband and I (we graduated in 64 and 65) both remember John Lennon as a big druggie. The song Imagine is absolutely saying religion has screwed things up and we’d be better off without it.
When John and Oko came out with their nudie album, that did it for me. YUCK. And let me tell you, they should have kept THOSE bodies clothed
Whoever said he was a poor role model got it right.

I just can’t accept that the song had nothing to do with LSD. The whole song is about a hallucinogenic trip on acid. Listen to it again. We also know that the Beatles experimented with LSD at this time in their lives.A child that Julian lennon knew in school was named Lucy, and he drew her floating in the sky wearing diamonds, and don’t quote me on this but I beleive Paul suggested a song.
It is a coincidence, but there are too many witnesses, including Julian, who kept the drawing.
Well, the evidence says no and you say yes. I’m going with the evidence. It’s also possible that it started with Julian and was then expanded to sinc up with their acid trip, given the initials. Either way, the song is about an acid trip.
I just saw that my way of saying it was a little snarky, and I do apologize, but I can’t change it now.I’m just going to believe what The Beatles said. John says it was a picture that Julian drew…leave it at that. He said it. Sure it could be about LSD. But, hey, we’ll never know.
No, actually agreed with what you wrote. I’m just saying, the musics good, people should respect the music. I like what you wrote.I just saw that my way of saying it was a little snarky, and I do apologize, but I can’t change it now.
So am I. A song whose initials are LSD and the song is about crazy hallucinations. Written during a time while they were admittedly experimenting with LSD. (Talk about coincidences.)Well, the evidence says no and you say yes. I’m going with the evidence.
Oh yeah, because Elvis was a paradigm of virtue.I have no time for John Lennon or the Beatles. Personally, I prefer Elvis Presley I find him and his songs more spiritually up lifting.![]()
