That suggests it is necessary to try to understand the reasons he says what he does; all the more so, as he sees evil where we see good.

How well informed about Catholicism is he ? Does anyone know ? If he isn’t, then surely he can’t be treated as though he were  ?
I believe that anybody in his position has a responsibility to be sure that he knows what he is saying and not to misrepresent those of whom he speaks.

Catholic teaching is widely available at the click of a mouse. If he makes these absurd statements out of ignorance, I believe that such ignorance is culpable.

He is an intelligent man but his logic is clouded by hatred of what he believes is Catholicism.
So that means that he never will be taken seriously by really intelligent people.
😦

Today, United States Reformed minister and radio preacher John MacArthur has as his featured homepage article: “Is Roman Catholicism Biblical?”

In his argument that the Catholic Church is not Biblical, he cites as the most significant reason: “its denial of the doctrine of sola Scriptura”

Now that is some world class irony.
LOLOLOL
Thank you for this - I cracked up laughing! :rotfl:
John is a sincere but misguided man.

Incredible. “Take out Purgatory, and Catholicism is a hard sell.” “It’s all about money.” This guy is delirious.
If only he knew he was saying, “Take out the Crucifixion, and Catholicism is a hard sell.”

Interestingly, MacArthur has eluded to what Purgatory actually is in his talks (i.e. perfection will occur in us after death). But like most other Catholic teachings, he misrepresents what it is. To him, Purgatory is a Catholic cash cow. In another stroke of irony, at the end of almost every one of his radio shows, he tries to sell something. Here are his current archives.

You see why this guy is such a butterfly pinned to the wall? I’m fascinated! 😛

How is this irony. When we look at what Catholics teach and what the Bible has to say we find that they are not in harmony with each other. some points to look, The Catholic Doctine oa Mary is not found in the Bible but in traditions. Purgatory is not found in the bible either. There are many many more I could bring up. The Catholic plan of salvation is a works oriented system which Eph 2:8-9 condemns.

First MacArthur is not in the reformed church movement. He is independent. what is wrong with his statement on Sola Scriptura.? He is right.

All MacArthur has to do is prove that Sola Scripture is contained in the Scriptures. But, since he is not with us on these message boards at this present time, perhaps you can speak for him and give us your own oral tradition on the matter.

I just find it so bizzare that a “preacher” can spend a whole sermon preaching against Catholicism!? This is their idea of Christianity and a worship service??

Yes, it is bizzare. But not hard to understand. When you replace true worship, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, with the personality of the preacher in the pool-pit this is what will pass for worship.

John MacArthur is one of the best bible teachers there is. I really enjoy what he has to say. Of course not everyone is going to agree with what someone else might say. I think so long as he can back it up with scripture he’s got to be right on the point. I also recommend his study bible. It is great.

John MacArthur is a self-righteous, arrogant wind bag. No man knows as much as he does, and no man is as smart as he is, and he shows it. He has attacked other Protestant leaders because they don’t agree with him a good bit. Very few preachers are as in love with themselves as John MacArthur.

What’s their doctrine on Mary?

IS the idea of Purgatory not in the Bible? Are you sure there are no arguements in in Scripture for it?

Yeah, no doubt. The sermon that someone linked to reminds me of a parable about the Pharisee that prayed, thank you Lord for not making me like him. (or in John’s case, those wretched Catholics)

Jesus told us that we are to love our enemies. Sure seems that Mac is planting some seeds of hatred towards the Pope and the Hierarchy of the Church to the poor misinformed people sitting there listening to his nonsense.

Yeah right. Ask him to show you where sola scriptura is in the Bible.
