And that’s just for starters. That the Church is not biblical because it does not follow the heresy of sola scriptura (fail).

I hope you will consider joing the Christian Poetry Group I started a short while ago - you may see yet several more sides of this old Protestant! I am glad you are feeling in better health. May God continue to bless our online activities.Hi P101!
Gosh I had wondered what had happened to you! Anyway a rest from you has done me good! LOL!
A rest from me? Why whatever for??
All I wanted to say is that I still believe we can all be friends and I hope you can cast your prejudices aside and be nice. I just know that you are really a nice person and think it is a pity that we can’t learn from each other and discuss civilly even though we may not agree.
Jesus told us to love one another. I know you love Jesus and so do we and I think we should think about it and ask Jesus to help us to do his bidding.
cheers
Cinette
Actually, the biggest reason I keep coming back is because I really really believe that we are to love one another anyway! No matter what!
No; I think that is a little off-base. People who seem difficult on internet forums do not show the difference between two denominations; only between different types of people, and while we are busy patting ourselves on the back “Thankyou Lord that I am not like that dirty sinner,” the world sees how we in turn respond to them. God is not looking for the “Howie” response so much as He will be looking for the Catholic response. Will any of us be weighed in the balances and “found wanting?”Yes and no…
One of the great things about CAF is not just the discussions that occur with different posters of different faiths…
but also the number of “quiet” viewers that watch the direction of the threads as they look for answers.
We actually appreciate the Howies of the world because they tend to show viewers, or those just passing through, a good picture of the differences between the Catholic Church and all other usurpers (is my bias showing??)
.
You will find a prime example in the OP (original post). Can you share just one false statement that Dr. MacArthur has made concerning the Catholic church.
You know, guanophore, as all of the Catholics on this thread have discussed, and what our esteemed adversaries will not acknowledge is the fact that sola scriptura = relativism. It really does. You will find a prime example in the OP (original post).
Actually, bad question. Did DLClark not read the OP or should the OP be stated in more simpler terms for him to be able to comprehend it?Quote:

Good question.
Not to mention, I have yet to hear sound reasoning regarding how the bible got to Protestants in the first place and how do they know which books belong there, if sola scriptura is true, then it follows the book was assembled with the correct books and numbering verses by God alone, which fails the test of historical knowledge. There would be no bible without the authority of the Church.Alas, the legacy of the Reformation doctrine of Sola Scriptura is a medley of thousands of ever-changing formulations and variations of Christianity.
Are you telling me it did not drop from the sky?!!!1Not to mention, I have yet to hear sound reasoning regarding how the bible got to Protestants in the first place and how do they know which books belong there, if sola scriptura is true, then it follows the book was assembled with the correct books and numbering verses by God alone, which fails the test of historical knowledge. No, you’re pointing out what you consider to be a false conclusion by Dr. M. What DLC asked was what false statements did Dr.M make regarding Catholic teaching.Actually, bad question. Did DLClark not read the OP or should the OP be stated in more simpler terms for him to be able to comprehend it?
To correctly state what Dr Mac said; The Catholic Church IS BIBLICAL because it refuses to believe in a doctrine as UNBIBLICAL AS SOLA SCRIPTURA.
Is he not aware that this doctrine has been debunked many times over?
Ooops! Two whacks on Benedictus’s rear end for not reading DLC’s post properlyNo, you’re pointing out what you consider to be a false conclusion by Dr. M. What DLC asked was what false statements did Dr.M make regarding Catholic teaching.
To put it simply, because the Roman Catholic Church has refused to submit itself to the authority of God’s Word and to embrace the gospel of justification taught in Scripture, it has set itself apart from the true body of Christ. It is a false and deceptive form of Christianity. – John MacArthurProvide for me just one statement about the Catholic Church that MacArthur has made that is wong.![]()
Please explain to me how is it then that Martin Luther subtracted the seven books from the old testament (what was known as the canon of scripture until Luther questioned it) and by what authority did he do this other than his own? From the passages that tell us not add or subtract from the Bible or we are in grave danger from God, tells us that the Bible alone is our sole authority for faith and practice, Rev. 22:18; Proverbs30:6; Deut. 4:2; 12:32.![]()

Such a hard clad ruling, I suppose, must also pertain to the Scriptures and their writers. When MacArthur makes statements contrary to Catholic Doctrine… he is wrong.
Is your stated position written in your creeds, canon law, CCC or over the entrance of the Vatican? You can call it opinion, or you can call the Church in error. That does not matter.
Some? How is that possible?Anyone… anyone… who rejects a doctrine of the Church founded by Jesus Christ, is in fact rejecting some of Jesus Christ.
The struggle for abolute authority over the church between the Bishop of Rome in the West and the Bishop of Constantinople in the East went on for years. Neither one conceded to the other - to this day.If you feel that is arrogance, so be it. But history, the authority of the Catholic Church, and the Book of Scriptures given by the Holy Ghost to only the Catholic Church disagree with you.
And was revealed only to the Western church?Tradition… what Jesus taught the Apostles
Which of the writers of Scriptures claimed to be Roman Catholic? Can you give me chapter and verse?Scripture… what Catholic Church members committed to writing
When did the eastern Catholic church submit to the claimed authority of the Magisterium of the western RCC? Can you give me the date when that submission occurred?Magisterium… the teaching body of the Catholic Church.
Actually, you’re the only one whose making witness. These are three witnesses to the Truth.
I don’t think either of them ever made the claims you’re making. What is it one would “get” if one paid for it?if one decides to add a MacArthur to the mix, or a Luther, or a Calvin etc, then you will get what you pay for.
What?if one decides to add the Apostles, the Church Fathers, the Saints, the Councils, the 2000 history of the Church to the mix… that is giving credit to God for His plan for us.
How does one “stumble across” a web site? Your browser just went to it on its own?Luther was a heretic.
He prefered his own authority over that of the Church, although he recognized that :
“Anyone who is to find Christ must first find the church. How could anyone know where Christ is and what faith is in him unless he knew where his believers are?”
This site is one I happened to just stumble across…
interesting…

It was called the canon of scripture in the fourth century, it was the collaborative effort of bishops and church fathers to put together the scriptures in a formal way that could be spread all throughout the universal church. Up until that time they had the “Scriptures” or what we now call the old testament along with epistles and several apocryphal gospels written about our Lord. I suggest you read about the magnificent translation by St. Jerome that is now called the vulgate. So tell me, on what day in history was the “Book of Scriptures” given to the Bishop of Rome by the Holy Ghost? Certainly such an event would have been recorded in history, and not done in secrecy.
Sola Scritpura can be interpreted to mean that any interpretation of Scripture is acceptable as long as its proponent claims to be inspired by the Holy Spirit. Or it can mean that there is only one interpretation of Scripture that is protected from error by the Holy Spirit and all other interpretations must be measured against this authoritative interpretation. From the passages that tell us not add or subtract from the Bible or we are in grave danger from God, tells us that the Bible alone is our sole authority for faith and practice, Rev. 22:18; Proverbs30:6; Deut. 4:2; 12:32.![]()
