PS. The thing that the liberal arm of the Church, here in the U.S., most certainly DON’T want to see another conservative Pope canonized!!! Don’t ya’ just love it!!!

Well, actually it works both ways, each Pope ‘points’ to the other as a saint, if you think about it! For this story to work, BOTH must be in Heaven! So, the Liberals will be shocked by one and the Ultraconservatives about the other!

Yes, that is the interpretation that occurred to me, too!

I never thought of it that way. I thought it was** for them and us** to HONOR GOD! Maybe I’m wrong, but I think God just wants all of us to know that regardless of individual preferences and ideologies, we are ALL in HIS service for the good of HIS CHURCH -not OURS- and working as ONE TEAM. And to help others who need us via the traditional ‘Communion of the Saints’.

For all we know, those 2 Popes may have terribly disliked one another -who knows!- but our connection in Baptism as one BODY of CHRIST supersedes all of those petty things.

If we divide the Church into camps with saints as our ‘champions’ then we are forgetting something…aren’t we?

I can see many actions taken by pope JPII that one may take exception to, but his service to the church of god is undeniable. Where would the church be had JPII not been there to show to dissenting liberals and confused youths that the pope was not “the man”, that the papacy was instituted by Christ and was deserving of all the respect and obedience that goes with that? If God had not through venerable pope JPII forged a generation that willed towards orthodoxy, how much more difficult would it be today for Pope Benedict the sixteenth to bring us there? JPII saved the church, perhaps you ought give him some respect for that.

Would you be able to admit the possibility -however unlikely- that it is the Holy Spirit Who is in charge of WHO gets to be Pope, and of WHAT they are able to accomplish? And of How it is accomplished?

Because I sometimes get the impression that some people -not picking on you necessarily, but your comment reminded me- sound as if they thought that the Catholic Church is THEIR church - almost like a country club - to decide Who, What, When, Where, Why and particularly HOW…

As if God had started it, and walked away, and had nothing to do with it anymore…or was not ABLE to do as He pleases with it anymore……Really disturbing!

I wouldn’t be Catholic at all if it were up to people to decide these things! :nope:

ONLY because I’m CERTAIN that it is God, particularly through the power of the Holy Spirit, Who acts through ANYONE who heads the church, am I a Catholic…there are other more ‘colorful’ options otherwise!

I forgot to mention, this is Lent, when we should abstain from certain things…abstinence from disrespecting saints would be wise during this season… Just saying…

Excuse me, but I’m lost on this one…

So, the point is that some people consider Pope Benedict VXI as ‘ok’ but not Pope John Paul II? Just trying to ‘catch up’ because to me ALL Popes are chosen by the Holy Spirit, not just some…the ones I arbitrarily ‘like’…because I know better than the entire ‘conclave’ of Cardinals who devote their lives to these things…

Besides, I don’t find terrible differences between the last 2 Popes at least. They seem very similar to me…what am I missing?
