I understood that John the Baptist was Jesus cousin. If he recognized Christ in the womb. Why did he send his follower to ask Christ if he was the messiah?

The parallel between 2 Samuel 6:15 and Luke 1:41 is worth noting:

2Sa 6:14 And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

Luk 1:41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb;

Also, St. John the Baptist sent his followers to Jesus for their sake, so that THEY would know that He (Jesus) is the one to follow.

I must decrease while He increases.
