Does anyone happen to know this story about John Vianney? I have heard he spoke with Satan. Is that right?

🙂

So did my dad. Just before he died he was visited by a priest named John. No one saw the priest on the hospital floor. My dad also recalled having a vivid dream where he told the devil he could NOT have him. A priest told me it was St. John Vianney who visited my dad.

Wow. How did the priest know? Did the mysterious priest take a confession from your dad?

St. John was a thorn to the devil. One of the greatest gifts of this saintly priest was his handling of the Confessional. John had taken many from the grip of the devil and the devil made sure this thorn was not going to get at him. Often when the saint was sleeping the devil would howl through the night. Once St. John had visitors over and while they went to sleep they heard this howling and asked John about it. The saint said do not worry about it, for it is the old fox who is trying his best to give me a sleepless night. Why they asked? The saint smiled and said the devil knows there will plenty of fish coming to me tomorrow. St. John knew that many would be coming to him in the Confessional and these he referred to as “fish”.

Wow. I’ve never heard the details.

Well the devil said to St. John that if there were 3 Vianneys in France, his kingdom in France would be ruined. It was said that St. John helped saved 80,000 souls in France.

While St. John was fasting, the devil would whisper to him, “Vianney eat bread”

Only John Vianney would know if he talked to Satan or not. We cannot know that.
